🌸 Jiming Temple One of Nanjing’s oldest Buddhist temples, founded in the Western Jin Dynasty. Emperor Wu of Liang in the Southern Dynasties four times renounced his secular life here at Tongtai Temple (the predecessor of Jiming Temple). The temple is built against the mountain, with yellow walls and dark tiles, and a thriving incense offering. From the Medicine Master Pagoda, you can overlook Xuanwu Lake and the Ming City Wall. In spring, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the pink and white sea of flowers complements the ancient temple, creating a breathtaking scene.
🌊 Xuanwu Lake One of the three famous lakes in Jiangnan, located outside the Ming City Wall. The lake is divided into five islets (Huanzhou, Yingzhou, Lingzhou, Liangzhou, Cuizhou), connected by bridges and causeways. The lake and mountain scenery, together with the city skyline, create beautiful views in all four seasons. Historically, it was a royal garden, and is now open to the public for free, making it a popular spot for citizens to relax and tourists to visit.
🏯 Nanjing Taicheng This refers to a section of the Ming City Wall, located on the south bank of Xuanwu Lake, next to Jiming Temple. Taicheng originally referred to the imperial city of the Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties, but now mostly refers to this towering ancient city wall. From the wall, you can look east to Purple Mountain, west to Shangxin Pavilion, and overlook the entire Xuanwu Lake. Underfoot are Ming bricks and green stones, and at your fingertips is the vicissitude of the Six Dynasties.
