What to expect
Rotoroa Island is the perfect island escape - just a short cruise from the city - it showcases the natural beauty and rich history of the Hauraki Gulf. Explore this beautiful island easily via established tracks and coastal paths that take in relics from the island’s past, sculptural installations and expansive views across the Gulf.
Managed by Rotoroa Island Trust the island has been predator free since 2014 and is now home to a number of relocated native birds and wildlife free ranging across the island which you can spot just as easily in the native bush as the open fields and shorelines. Rotoroa's best kept secret is the sheltered sandy beaches perfect for a swim or picnic after your walk.

Reviews
The scenery is beautiful, and the flora and fauna are well-preserved. You can often see birds native to the island walking nearby, making for a great overall experience.
excellent island, nice and peaceful and beaches were worth visiting, make sure you venture to mai mai beach and cable beach, better snorkelling
Basically a round trip access to a pest free sanctuary. Happy to contribute to environmental protection via our tickets. There is however no paid guided tour available (22NZD per head as stated on website) on the day of travel. Explorers would like the island but some paths are too steep to venture into for beginners like me.
You are free to wander around the island, so if you choose a different route than the other tourists, you'll feel like you're walking alone on a deserted island. I was able to walk around while listening to the sounds of birds and various insects. Food and drinks are not sold on the island, so you must purchase them in advance. I bought a sandwich and a chocolate brownie on the ferry during the trip.
We enjoyed the beautiful scenery. However, please note that you need to prepare your own lunch, and there are no facilities selling food on site.
