To commemorate the 90th anniversary of San-X, the company that nurtured these uniquely charming characters, the first major exhibition, "San-X 90th Anniversary Exhibition," is being held. The exhibition will center around "Tarepanda," "Rilakkuma," and "Sumikko Gurashi," leading everyone to deeply explore the secrets behind the birth of "our children" through never-before-seen character original drawings, precious materials, and videos. In addition, from unforgettable classic characters like "Kogepan" and "Afro Ken" to the rapidly rising popular "Kutsushita Nyanko," all will gather to create a unique space where you can reunite with your favorite characters. Celebrating San-X's 90th Anniversary, the first large-scale overseas special exhibition makes its grand debut!
Tarepanda, Rilakkuma, Sumikko Gurashi... these characters all originated from the Japanese company San-X.
This exhibition will lead everyone into the world of these incredibly charming characters. Focusing on "Tarepanda," "Rilakkuma," and "Sumikko Gurashi," the exhibition will unveil original character artwork, precious materials, and video content for the first time overseas, delving deep into the secrets of San-X characters' birth. From "Kogepan" and "Afro Ken" born in the 1990s to "Weak-Willed Dog" born in the 2020s, popular characters from all generations will gather together!
Exhibition Area Introduction
Tarepanda This area will display original Tarepanda picture book artwork and other content, and through video, present layers of stacked Tarepanda, as well as a giant 2-meter-tall Tarepanda, bringing an immersive and cute experience to everyone. In addition, this area will also unveil for the first time original hand-drawn artworks of other characters that appeared after 1990, besides Tarepanda, such as Doudou Dog and Hirabbit.
Rilakkuma Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, Kiiroitori, and Chairoikoguma appear! The highlight of the exhibition area is the three-dimensional display works that maintain their usual relaxed posture. In addition, about 200 plush toys from the popular Rilakkuma “Collection Plush Toy” series will also gather together, leading everyone to deeply analyze the charm of Rilakkuma.
Sumikko Gurashi San-X designers’ design sketches for Sumikko Gurashi’s “Sumikko Cafe Theme” and the latest “Ghost Midnight Amusement Park Theme,” as well as original artworks by author Yuri Yokomizo, are unveiled for the first time! The exhibition also displays storyboards and setting materials from “Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: A Magical New Friend in the Picture Book,” which brought many to tears, as well as cute three-dimensional display works that seem to be watching the daily lives of Sumikko Gurashi!
The Story of Everyone’s Birth This area reveals the stories before the characters’ birth through early design drafts and prototype plush toys, and conveys the creators’ unknown ideas and intentions. In addition, from the 1980s to the latest characters, hundreds of San-X characters from all generations will gather together, and we believe everyone will find their own “favorite character”!
New Friends San-X’s new characters born after 2010 make their grand finale appearance! In addition to displaying production materials for “Chikipanda,” whose popularity is rapidly rising due to its animation broadcast, this section also unveils new and highly anticipated friends such as “Weak-Willed Dog,” born in 2024, who is always three-minute hot and can’t help but be too lenient with himself!

My favorite Rilakkuma! The tickets were very easy to use. It's a shame that by the second entry time, all the carts were gone! There wasn't much worth buying at the store either.
Absolutely delighted! The entire event was well-organized, the process was relaxed and enjoyable, the staff provided friendly service, and the itinerary was rich and interesting. The overall experience was fantastic and highly recommended!
A very worthwhile exhibition, with many short stories about the characters! It might be near the end of the exhibition, as many of the limited-edition merchandise items are already sold out.
Childhood memories are flooding back. There were so many characters I loved back then, like Tare Panda and Burnt Toast. Turns out there are also many unknown characters I'd seen on the covers of their comic books, which are also their creations.
The venue was filled with cherished childhood memories! The hand-drawn drafts on display evoked a warm feeling. Upon closer inspection, I realized that many of the characters had played a comforting role throughout my growth.
I've loved Rilakkuma since I was a child and even bought a cute pillow. This time, I'll introduce the Rilakkuma family of characters, and Sumikko Gurashi are also very cute!
The exhibition content was all very cute and therapeutic, and the staff were friendly. However, the flow of the exhibition was quite strange, and the dining area was separate and a bit far away.
I love it so much, every little character's birth is super cute. However, it's unreasonable that you can only check out once in the shop. There are so many blind boxes...
I went to the Rilakkuma exhibition on a weekday, so there weren't many people, and I could take lots of photos. However, since I wasn't in the first group to enter at 11 AM, I couldn't buy the limited edition plushie, which was a bit of a shame.
It's rare to see so many Sanrio characters, along with the drafts, initial sketches, and final versions of various cartoon characters. I truly admire the author's meticulous attention to detail; every character is just adorable!
