What to expect
Pusô has been a part of Cebuano culture from precolonial times to the present day. It’s a compact and portable food staple that involves boiling rice wrapped in young coconut leaves, known as “lukay”.
This pusô weaving workshop is an interactive experience for all ages and skill levels! In a step-by-step process, we'll show you how to twist and loop until you’ve woven your own pusô. Instead of palm fronds, we will use a colorful, comfortable alternative: felt strips.
By the end of the workshop, you will have the skills to create pusô at home.
Do take note that this is a crafting activity, not a cooking class. Each participant also receives a free drink! You may also purchase pastries from our cafe, The Tea & Gallery.

Our instructor, Steph, is a local artist who is incredibly kind and friendly. At the beginning of the class, she explained the cultural and historical background of Pusô, as well as the traditional methods of making it. Then, she taught us how to weave using the materials provided in the workshop kit. Her explanations were very clear, and the materials can even be reused for practice, which is very thoughtful! My nine-year-old was able to complete the project successfully and happily turned two of the Pusô from the kit into keychains as souvenirs. We took the other one home so we could teach family and friends how to make it, turning it into a warm family gathering activity! The material kit includes a QR code for an instructional video, so there's no need to worry about forgetting the steps once you're home. If I have more time, I'd love to sign up for more handicraft activities at Cebu Making Space. It's a wonderful experience to have the opportunity to interact with locals and learn more about different aspects of Filipino culture!
I was clumsy, but her support helped me finish weaving the puso. Her English was very easy to follow, so I’d recommend this workshop to non-native English speakers too. Plus, you get a free drink if you join!
