What to expect

This day tour that departs from Chengdu takes you all the way to the famed Giant Buddha of Leshan. It sits at the meeting point of three rivers: Min, Qingyi, and Dadu. Here, with the company of the bilingual guide, you may be able to get close to the Giant Buddha and learn about why this statue had been created and the significance it plays in the part of the locals’ lives. Afterward, you get to visit one of the towns nearby. One of the biggest industries in the area is farming tea. Here, in this mountainous area, it’s most efficient to grow tea plants in terraces, which you’ll see as you visit one of the fields. A fun day. It is a long drive to Leshan from Chengdu but we enjoyed watching the countryside on our way (and managed a sneaky nap on the way back). Our guide was fantastic going above and beyond and lunch was one of the best meals we have ever eaten.

This tour was absolutely stunning. Not so sure about the Giant Buddha as very touristy, but I guess it is a must see for all tourists. The following tour through the old town and market was great and felt extremely local and not made up for tourists. Exactly what I was looking for. Also the visit to the tea plantage and farming house was excellent. I highly reccommend this tour for an authentic insight, but make sure to wear long trousers (!) - my legs are full of mosquito bites (probably from the tea farm). The guide was extremely care-taking and I also got a very safe drive from / back to Chengdu.

This tour was great!! We really weren’t sure what to expect from the description but it turned out great!! Lucy was very fun, open to sharing her culture and answering our questions. The boat ride was fine, but getting to tour the old city and experience the market and food was really cool. The tea plantation was a neat to experience too.

This tour is incredible for someone who is looking to experience the local life! Our tour guide Patrick is really knowledgeable. He explained about Le Shan Buddha in detailed and brought us around the local market, sharing the stories behind the local families, daily life and the history of the town with passion. This tour includes a boat trip that allows you to see the entire Le Shan Buddha (but not hiking around it as it would take 3 hours), a tour around the Suji ancient town, tea plantation and tea market. A really worthwhile experience!
