Bongawan Mangrove Cruise and Fireflies Tour

We were a group ranging from 8yrs to 71yrs. This trip was great for all! The transfer was comfortable, we saw Proboscis and long tail macaques, crocodiles and birds. The sunset was breathtaking and the fireflies were so beautiful. on the beach, you can pay extra to ride a small ATV which was likely the highlight of my 12yr old’s day! Our guide, Cathy was wonderful, we learned a lot about the mangroves and the creatures because of her!

Our tour guide was very professional. We were able to rest well during travel, and during the tour, we received a lot of information and felt a great sense of hospitality. Dinner was a buffet with local food. The long-nosed monkeys, fireflies, and Mirror Beach were all absolutely wonderful.

We started with afternoon tea, which included fried bananas and drinks. After a short break, our exciting boat trip began. There were three parts to the boat tour: ✨ First trip: Searching for proboscis monkeys (seeing them isn't guaranteed; it really depends on luck!) 🌅 Second trip: Heading to the beach to watch the sunset. The scenery was so beautiful that it was hard to leave, and the guide even helped everyone take amazing photos! ✨ Third trip: On the way back, we admired the countless fireflies in the mangrove forest. The most interesting part was when the guide used a flashlight to mimic the flashing rhythm of female fireflies, attracting male fireflies to fly over and flash in response. The entire forest instantly lit up like a Christmas tree—it was truly special and incredibly therapeutic! If you come to Kota Kinabalu, I think this tour is definitely worth planning. You get to see proboscis monkeys, a stunning sunset, and magical fireflies all in one go, creating wonderful memories! ❤️

It was raining heavily when we set off for the pier, and I was worried the boat trip might be canceled. However, the tour guide eventually told us to board the boat. Despite my initial apprehension, the weather fortunately started to clear up while we were on the boat. Not only did we see proboscis monkeys, but the fireflies at night were a truly delightful surprise. It was definitely worth the trip.

Highly recommend! The tour guide and boatman were so dedicated, patiently helping us find the proboscis monkeys, and we were lucky enough to see one in the end. The sunset was truly beautiful, followed by watching the fireflies, which looked just like a Christmas tree. The guide even specially lured them closer so we could hold them in our hands and make a wish.

The tour guide provided very professional commentary, and hotel pickup and drop-off were included. We spotted many proboscis monkeys, though not extremely close up. The fried bananas for afternoon tea were delicious, and dinner was clean and hygienic!

The itinerary was very comfortable. We were lucky enough to see monitor lizards, crocodiles, and proboscis monkeys in the Klias Wetlands, which was very exciting. The tour guide was kind and friendly. In the evening, we saw many fireflies, which were beautiful, and the guide even caught a few for us to make wishes.

If you have a large group, the car might be a little cramped, but it's worth the hour and a half drive from Suria Sabah. Dinner is a little underwhelming, but let's just head back before 9 PM and grab something delicious at the night market ^^
