  • Landmark Views Reflecting on Shan Lake

The Sun and Moon Twin Towers are two pagodas located in Shan Lake in the center of Guilin. The Sun Tower is a copper tower, and the Moon Tower is a glazed tile tower. The two towers are connected by an underwater tunnel more than 10 meters long. Every night, the two towers emit golden and silver light respectively under the illumination of the lights, and the scene reflected in the lake is particularly beautiful. The Sun Tower is 41 meters high with nine floors. Its entire body is decorated with pure copper, and it is resplendent and magnificent. All components of the copper tower, such as the tower body, tiles,翘角 (qiao jiao, upturned eaves), pillars, beams, and ground, are completely decorated with copper murals. There is an elevator in the tower for tourists to ride for sightseeing. On the first floor of the Sun Tower, there is a blessing copper bell, which can be struck to pray for blessings. At the same time, there are tea houses on the first and second floors, where you can enjoy tea and admire the scenery. The Moon Tower is 35 meters high with seven floors and is a glazed tile tower. It is connected to the Sun Tower by an underwater tunnel more than 10 meters long. The carved and painted doors and windows on each floor of the Moon Tower have different themes, which are rich in traditional Chinese charm. In its underground palace, there is a large mural of a blue and white plum vase from the Ming Dynasty in Guilin, and there is a "Tai Chi Drum" facing the lake on the first floor, which can be played to show your heroic appearance. The surroundings, inner walls, doors and windows of the Twin Towers are full of colorful patterns, and the colors are mainly yellow, green, white, blue, and black. These murals mainly reflect the culture of northern Guizhou, and the patterns are mainly based on various flowers and plants and the '瑶王印' (Yao King Seal), which reflects the cultural characteristics of ethnic minorities' pursuit of a refined life. If you are not prepared to spend money to climb the tower and just want to see or photograph this Guilin landmark, you can watch it along the banks of Shan Lake. The ideal time to watch is at night, when the lights of the Twin Towers will be lit up every night, one with golden yellow lights and the other with silver white lights.
