Fantastic 5.0
We really had fun! Even though we visited during the rainy season— and it was raining really hard during our small trail, it still made our experience memorable! Our guide, Captain Cook was very funny and very informative! He is also very friendly! He drives really well too! We are thinking of coming back again during the spring season (I think this will be the best time to visit alishan because of the flowers 🥰) Overall, this trip is definitely worth it! We hope you get Captain Cook as your guide! 💗🥰

Fantastic 5.0
I was drawn by the inclusion of the forest railway, so I booked a 2-day, 1-night Alishan trip (outbound: car, return: car + train). After the reservation was confirmed, I received information about what to bring and precautions via LINE. Closer to the date, I also received detailed information about the meeting point, driver's name, and vehicle number, which was reassuring. (All in Chinese, but translation software helped.) The documents provided when boarding the shuttle car also included Japanese, which was easy to understand. The guide spoke Chinese, so I needed someone to translate for me, but there was plenty of explanation time during the 2-hour hike. The paths were well-maintained with wooden decks and stone pavements, so even with my limited stamina and in the rain, I was able to walk comfortably. One word of caution: if you use a private car transfer, there's a high risk of motion sickness because the winding mountain roads have significant inclines. Even though I don't usually get car sick, I felt quite ill during the return transfer from Alishan to Fenqihu and wished I had brought motion sickness medication.

It was a great 2 days trip and totally worth it to go to Alishan (one day would have been too rush and not having enough time to enjoy Alishan/ Chiayi/ Taichung). Mr B. Tsai was very accommodating and flexible with itinerary, especially with kid. That’s the benefit of having private tour as we were able to change itinerary to suit us. He also dropped us off at Taoyuan airport af the end of the tour as per request. Accommodation was clean, quiet with beautiful view of tea farm. Will definitely book with them for other tours when next visit Taiwan.

Max was an outstanding driver for our Alishan day tour—punctual, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. He made the entire journey smooth and comfortable, sharing great local insights along the way. Highly recommend Max for a stress-free and enjoyable experience!

Fantastic 5.0
Even though the weather was hot, fishing was a lot of fun, but it was also quite challenging, and I was a little sad I didn't catch anything. Clam digging was incredibly fun, an experience city kids rarely get. Dragon boating was also very interesting. We caught our own clams to eat and then grilled them. The overall experience was more enjoyable than I expected. It's definitely worth a visit!

Great 4.0
I went to the location last minute and was assigned a therapist for a 100-minute foot and body massage. Overall, the service was satisfactory. I felt that this therapist was a bit new, but I believe with more practice and experience, they will become a top performer at the shop!

I was a bit worried after reading the Google reviews, but when I arrived, I was incredibly surprised! The staff were all super nice, and the birthday decorations were much prettier than I imagined! There are activities at the campsite both day and night, so it's never boring. Plus, the BBQ dinner is definitely worth adding on, and the breakfast buffet was also delicious with a good variety of fresh ingredients, which is the most important thing! I genuinely loved it much more than I expected! I definitely want to come back, I loved it so much! 🫶🏼

What to know before visiting Chiayi

Top experiences in Chiayi through the year

Chiayi’s most-booked activities are massages, followed by visits to historical sites and guided tours, with parks & gardens and cultural experiences rounding out the list. Demand is quiet for much of the year but surges in the summer peak around August, so expect bookings and activity buzz to build through July into that peak.

Best choices for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find parks & gardens and historical sites the easiest to enjoy together—low-cost, relaxed outings that suit mixed ages. Couples often favour tours and cultural experiences for more curated encounters and deeper local flavour. Solo travellers and small groups can lean on massages and guided tours: massages are straightforward to book and relax after travel, while tours provide a ready-made itinerary and company.

What travellers from Hong Kong tend to book ahead

If you re travelling from Hong Kong, plan with moderate lead time: many visitors lock things in well before arrival, and the earliest planners typically book about five months out. Booking ahead matters most for the summer peak in August, when demand spikes and advance reservations are safest.

How categories compare by price and who they suit

Historical sites are the easiest, cheapest way in for most visitors, offering low-cost entry and broad appeal. Massages sit in the entry-to-mid price range and are popular with anyone wanting a relaxed, solo or couples experience. Tours are the priciest on average and show the widest range of options—they suit travellers seeking curated, higher-end or niche experiences—while parks & gardens and cultural experiences occupy lower to mid-range price positions and fit visitors looking for calmer, local-focused activities.
