What to expect
Experience a unique art form that has its origins in the Red River Delta over a millennium ago. Water puppetry, which once depicted the daily life of villagers such as farming, fishing, and romance, has evolved to showcase plays based on ancient Vietnamese legends, myths, and history. The renowned Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi has its roots in this 11th-century tradition, where puppeteers used large rods to support the puppets, creating the illusion of their movements across the water as they stood hidden behind a screen.

📍Seating: We bought a VIP seat which the distance to the performing stage is really close 📍Price: Although the price is a lil bit higher than the ticket box, but at least we can have the ticket and select the better seats earlier. 📍Show: I ever seen this kind of show in Ho Chi Minh City before but without borrowing the translation earphone so I really don’t understand the plot. This time, I borrowed the translation earphone and got more understanding and fun then my previous experience. It’s worthy!
A nice show to enjoy while escaping the heat outside. There are lots of people involved in this water puppet show and so, it’s worth spending 50 mins watching this. it’s good to get to this theatre 5-10 mins before your session commences to get your ticket and sit down comfortably. The theatre was packed and so, this show is popular.
Thang long theater acts are very interesting. we got to know vietnam stories from this show. though sometime there was a delay on their translation, we understood the play. it was fun how they manipulate the puppets in the water, and also the traditional music they produce.
it was a pleasantly surprised experience watching the puppet show! my daughter enjoyed it so much that her laughter roared throughout the auditorium. the klook counter was also a spot on, making the experience smoother!
it was a really good show and we were very impressed with the skill and the smoothness of how the puppeteers controlled their puppets. it was also very entertaining as we peeked into the lives of the Vietnamese through their folklore and also teasing of one another in the play. A must watch in Vietnam.
A must visit if you are in Hanoi. A very unique and ancient puppet show originally from the rice farms of Vietnam from 11th century brought to life by the water puppet artists along with live music and signing by local artists. We opted for the VIP ticket and were seated at the first row for ab unrestricted view. We also got the translator which helped to understand the various stories in English. Otherwise the show is mostly in local language. My recommendation is to include this show in your itinerary and get the translator for better understanding. While klook is definitely expensive that the ticket prices if you book at the counter it avoids long queue and risk of not getting tickets at your preferred ticket. Klook has a dedicated counter, you can show the vouchers and the person would give you physical tickets.
Having seen few puppet shows while growing up, this one was a different experience as water adds specific element and relatable to story telling. A must watch if you have time and consider opting first few rows as sitting in back rows may not give good experience when seeing small puppets. Kids friendly and they even provide extra cushion seat for younger kids. Better to book online as when we went the place was crowded and shows were already booked. Onle downside of booking online is that you can select the section but not the seats. Overall, a great show.
This was an interesting show. Besides the storytelling and bits of history shared, I admired the performers, musicians, and BTS people who made the entire show worthwhile. This is highly recommended! ✨
Was quite an experience. We took the one with the audio guide. We have gotten the far right seats, arent able to choose, row H I think. Cant really see the stage as people in front kept blocking the stage. Anyhow good experience.
Hassle-free exchange of pre-ordered tickets. Separate counter for Kloock. The show is worth every penny! The audio guide worked perfectly. Seats with very good visibility and comfortable. Very good performance. The low price is also not to be sneezed at.
