Details of Artist-designed Cultural and Creative Products

Participants may select one of the following artist-designed cultural and creative products at the time of purchase:

Option 1 | Hakka Cha Kwo-scented Incense Sticks

Work by artist Max Cheng

In Tai Hang, a century-old Hakka village, herbal wisdom has been passed down through generations. Inspired by mugwort, a common household herb in Hakka culture, Max Cheng has created a Tai Hang incense product. Made with mugwort and sandalwood, the incense releases a gentle aroma when lit, recalling the fresh scent of mugwort Cha Kwo while echoing the traditional use of mugwort in everyday folk practices for protection and wellbeing.

Bring the incense home and let the scent of mugwort and sandalwood carry Tai Hang’s Hakka memories and everyday blessings.

Option 2|Tai Hang Mythical Creature Capsule Toy

Work by paper mache art sculpture collective Hira Hira

Drawing on Tai Hang’s local legends, folk beliefs and collective memories, Hira Hira has created three “Tai Hang Mythical Creatures”. Each capsule contains one mythical creature character and a related story note. Designs are distributed at random and specific designs cannot be selected.

Tai Hang Mythical Creature Story

Sulphur Night Fire Dragon

  • A blessing that parades through the streets and unites the community
  • Guardian Power: Instant Cure · Misfortune Dispelled
  • Typhoons, plague, and even serpents entering the village — according to legend, the villagers followed the Guanyin’s guidance and, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, danced the Fire Dragon around the village and lit firecrackers to ward off disasters and hardship. The Sulphur Night Fire Dragon carries the blessing and collective spirit of Tai Hang’s Fire Dragon as it parades through the streets and alleys.

Golden Smiley Tiger

  • The joyful mascot watching over the mountain theme park
  • Guardian Power: Clear Vision · Mind Boost
  • Built by Tiger Balm tycoon Aw Boon Haw, Haw Par Mansion once opened the gates of its private garden to the public, inviting everyone into a fantastical wonderland and an imaginative journey between hell and the human world. The Golden Smiley Tiger carries the collective memories of Hong Kong people.

Divine Shekwan Dragon Fish

  • The marine dragon safeguarding Causeway Bay
  • Guardian Power: Smooth Sailing · Safe Travels
  • Perched on the roof ridge of Lin Fa Temple, the mythical turtle-dragon Ao has witnessed the mudflats in front of the temple transform into farmland, and then from farmland into tram tracks. It has protected generations of travellers on their journeys home and blessed households on shore from the threat of fire. The Divine Shekwan Dragon Fish symbolises protection, safety and continuity amid local change.

Every mythical creature features a unique “Guardian Power” and a community story. Bring along your mythical creature to explore Tai Hang’s rich folklore and legends!
