Guide

Urumqi Tianshan Grand Canyon is located in Dengcaogou Village, Banfanggou Town, southern suburbs of Urumqi City, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, about 24 kilometers from Urumqi City, with an average altitude of 2020 meters and a total planned area of about 1038 square kilometers. Urumqi Tianshan Grand Canyon is situated at the northern foot of Mount Tengger in the middle section of the Tianshan Mountains, on the southern edge of the Junggar Basin. Its terrain features both high mountains and intermontane basins, with majestic and undulating peaks. The overall terrain of the scenic area is higher in the south and lower in the north, sloping from south to north and from southwest to northeast.

Deep within the arid inland mountainous region, Urumqi Tianshan Grand Canyon has a large relative elevation difference, forming a distinct spectrum of climatic zones including warm temperate, mid-temperate, cold temperate, and frigid zones. This has led to the development of a series of vertical natural belts such as mountain grasslands, mountain forests, subalpine meadows, alpine meadows, alpine cushion vegetation, and snow belts, providing diverse habitats and living environments for wild animals and plants, and nurturing unique vegetation types and rich biological species. Urumqi Tianshan Grand Canyon boasts superior geographical location and natural conditions, with interspersed forests and grasslands, well-preserved communities, and abundant animal and plant resources. There are a total of 1,134 species of wild vascular plants belonging to 76 families and 432 genera, including 18 species of ferns, 10 species of gymnosperms, and 1,106 species of angiosperms. There are 181 species of vertebrates, including 2 species of fish, 1 species of amphibian, 2 species of reptiles, 144 species of birds, and 32 species of mammals, as well as 668 species of various insects.

Urumqi Tianshan Grand Canyon is rich in tourism resources, featuring steep and rugged mountains, mysterious primeval forests, lush valley grasslands, spectacular snow-capped peaks and glaciers, beautiful lakes and mountains, deep mountain canyons, rushing valley streams, and rich Kazakh ethnic customs, encompassing all natural landscapes of Xinjiang except deserts. The scenic area possesses the most complete and highly ornamental primeval spruce forests on the northern slope of Tianshan, holding extremely high value for tourism appreciation, scientific research, and historical culture. It is a tourist destination at the foot of Tianshan, rated as a national AAAAA-level scenic area, and affectionately called by tourists "A Hundred-Mile Golden Tourist Corridor, a Paradise for Leisure and Outdoor Recreation" and "Tianshan Heavenly Gate, Heavenly Scenery; Divine Mountains, Divine Waters, Immortal Journey."
