- The first stop is Miyazaki’s representative scenic spot, [Takachiho Gorge]. Stroll along the approximately 1-kilometer valley path, admiring the Manai Falls, Onihachi’s Power Stone, and Takachiho Sandaibashi between basalt cliffs. The emerald green stream, vertical rock walls, and cascading waterfalls intertwine to form a natural landscape painting. Especially in autumn, when the maple leaves dye the gorge red and reflect on the water, it is even more romantic and dreamlike. You can also opt to experience the highly popular Takachiho boat ride at your own expense, taking a small boat deep into the gorge to feel the grandeur of nature up close at the foot of the waterfall.
- Next, head to the spectacular [Daikanbo] in the Aso region. Ascend to the observation deck to take in the vast Aso Basin, the Five Peaks of Aso, and layers of mountains. The one-day tour from Kumamoto was very pleasant, and we were part of a small group of 7 people. The scenery at Kamishikimi Kumano-imasu Shrine was beautiful, the views in Kugino were expansive, and Kurokawa Onsen was also impressive; two hours there felt just right. Our tour guide, Ge Ning, was very friendly, and the driver was also thoughtful, dropping off and picking up passengers at convenient locations.
I applied for this tour because I wanted to do the Takachiho Gorge boat tour. Although I was a little disappointed that the boat tour couldn't happen due to unforeseen circumstances, it was a small-group tour where the guide paid careful attention to each participant, despite our different nationalities. The tour was well-organized, and the diverse age range of our group made for an enjoyable trip where everyone was considerate of each other. Thanks to this, my Kumamoto trip was even more fulfilling.
