What to expect
Shirakawa-go Light-up Festival, only open for 4 days a year, miss it and wait another year!!! Snow-covered Gassho-style village, warm yellow lights create a dreamlike scene.
[Note] This itinerary does not include observatory tickets for the day, and they cannot be purchased on site. Thank you for your understanding.
Your exclusive vehicle will depart on time and head north to the snowy secret of the Hida region. The first stop is Hida Takayama, known as “Little Kyoto”, which preserves the traditional appearance of the Edo period. Handicraft shops along the street display dyed cloths, wood carvings and other special items. Take a bite of Hida beef sushi that melts in your mouth and feel the freshness and fat of top-quality Wagyu beef.
The next stop is the World Heritage Site - Shirakawa-go Gassho Village. The buildings here are named for their steep triangular thatched roofs that resemble hands clasped together. Without a single nail, they rely solely on precise mortise and tenon joints to withstand a century of wind and snow.
As dusk approaches, the most anticipated light-up moment quietly arrives. As the warm yellow lights turn on one after another, the entire village is instantly transformed into a real-life fairy tale world. Stroll along the stone bridge on the banks of the Sho River, watch the lights reflect on the frozen river, or stop at the path behind Myozenji Temple to capture the Zen-like scene of the Gassho-style house and the temple’s overhanging eaves in the same frame. The warm lights reflecting on the snow are worth capturing in every frame.
We offer a small, exquisite Chinese group of 9 people or less. The itinerary is well-paced, allowing you to easily experience the nature, dreaminess and romance of Shirakawa-go in one trip.
