Shirakawa-go Gassho Village & Hida Takayama Day Trip with optional Shirakawa-go Observatory visit (Departure from Nagoya)

On June 6th, I joined a one-day tour led by Zuo Sha, with driver Xiao Lei Ge. We took a small bus directly to the observation deck, then to Shirakawa-go. Zuo Sha took us straight to photograph the three small houses and other beautiful spots. It was great that there were fewer tourists early in the morning! Afterward, we went to the Hida Takayama Old Town, and Zuo Sha introduced many local delicacies on the bus. Overall, it was a fantastic one-day tour, highly recommended!!

It's not bad, it's pretty good, but it's also good in that the whole trip is good in that overall the experience is good, so overall I think it's not bad.

The weather today was fantastic! Even though the temperature was low, the sky was perfectly clear. Hida Takayama Old Town was really enjoyable to explore; two hours flew by without me even realizing it. In Shirakawa-go, I managed to photograph the three houses, and they looked exactly like the pictures online. It was a great trip, just not quite enough time.

It was a fantastic trip, especially thanks to our tour guide, Ms. Mou (Xiao Qing), who proactively explained various local specialties, recommended restaurants, and shared historical and cultural backgrounds. This allowed us to enjoy Takayama and Shirakawa-go effortlessly. The driver was also very friendly, making for a wonderful and enriching experience.

This experience is truly one for the books! I’m so glad we chose to include Shirakawa-go with the observatory deck — the views made it even more special. I’ll definitely be coming back in another season 🙂

Unfortunately, I had to cancel because my travel companion suddenly fell ill the day before our trip. Thankfully, they recovered quickly, so I rebooked the itinerary for April 24th.

The tour guide arrived punctually and was very friendly. They explained the local characteristics one by one on the tour bus, which helped us learn more about the area. Moreover, the itinerary was arranged very smoothly.

We were so lucky to have tour guide Liu Mei this time! The entire trip was not only smoothly arranged, but her professionalism was also exceptional. She was very attentive throughout the journey, providing maps of the stops in the car and marking all the must-see attractions and local delicacies on the map. She also shared her experiences and stories. Before the trip ended, she specially compiled and recommended many unique local Nagoya dishes, must-visit attractions, and insider tips, which greatly benefited us during our subsequent free-and-easy travel. Professional, meticulous, enthusiastic, and thoughtful, she truly enhanced our entire trip! If we have the chance to visit again, we would definitely hope to have Liu Mei lead our tour. We highly recommend her!

Our tour guide, Mr. Lin Hu, was professional, thorough in his explanations, and provided enthusiastic service. He deserves high praise! The driver maintained precise control over the schedule, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey. We arrived smoothly and without incident. This was my first visit to Takayama, and although we had 2.5 hours there, it still felt like it wasn't enough. This was my second time visiting Shirakawa-go, and the spring and winter scenery truly offer vastly different experiences!
