Hanoi to Lao Cai (Sapa) Sleeper Train by Vietnam Railways

I took the Vietnam Railways sleeper train from Lao Cai to Hanoi, departing at noon and arriving in the evening. The ride was okay but had some drawbacks: no dining or seating carriage, so we had to eat in the cabin, and food options were limited to instant noodles, pork sausages, and snacks — better to bring your own. It can also be inconvenient if you’re on the upper bunk, and the train wasn’t very smooth, which sometimes made us feel nauseous. The bathroom was acceptable and fairly clean. On the positive side, the staff were very helpful and attentive. Even though they didn’t speak English, they patiently answered my questions and we managed with Google Translate. Overall, it’s not the most comfortable trip, but it’s a practical way to get from Sapa (Lao Cai) to Hanoi. If possible, book a lower bed or a VIP cabin for more comfort.
