The JR Kansai Wide Area Pass for five days is very convenient. You can even take the Shinkansen from Osaka to Okayama. It's even more cost-effective when paired with local sightseeing passes. This time, I chose discounts for three facilities in Tottori. The Sand Dune Museum is a must-visit attraction, and the scenery along the Uradome Coast by boat is beautiful (though it was cloudy that day, so the water wasn't as vibrant). For my last stop, I dined at Kan-ichi in Kami Town. The food was surprisingly delicious, and the prices were reasonable with a great atmosphere. Even on a weekday, there were many customers, so a bit of a wait was necessary.
We hired a taxi for three hours for 6,000 yen. We took the large boat for the Uradome Coast cruise, paying an additional 800 yen per person. On that day, the waves were too high for the small boats. The Sand Museum offered free admission, and the files were beautiful! We took the chairlift, realizing that the museum was a walk from the observation deck. We had thought it was accessible from the Sand Dune Center. Walking the sand dunes is free, and reaching the highest point and returning was easier than I expected, taking less than 45 minutes (including enjoying the view from the top of the dune). The sand was very fine and firm; you wouldn't sink into it. Walking normally, sand didn't get into our shoes, and we didn't have to constantly brush sand off when sitting. It was a relaxed experience. At the Sand Dune Center, the 'Mousha Shrimp' sashimi, costing over 1,000 yen, included three Mousha shrimp and three sweet shrimp – it was delicious and worth the price. Finally, we spent over 6,000 yen on souvenirs at the Sand Dune Center using three 1,000 yen bills. Today, for the three of us, excluding the round-trip train fare to Osaka and the Tottori sightseeing pass, we spent 20,000 yen on food, activities, and shopping! (It turns out the free Kirin bus with the JR Pass only operates on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.) So, we bought a special foreign tourist bus ticket for 1,000 yen at Osaka OCAT to Tottori and a 2,000 yen ticket from Matsue back to Osaka four days later. We also bought a three-day Matsue-Tottori JR Pass, which was a better deal!
I used it for the Sand Museum and Uradome boat tickets. I'm not sure where to use the remaining facility, as the other locations are quite far. If I were to recommend, I think choosing the Uradome boat, Sand Museum, and Sakyu Kaikan is the best.
This is an amazing deal, a must-buy for anyone who needs it.
It’s super convenient to buy tickets on Klook. You don’t have to queue on site, you can just swipe the tickets. Tottori is very convenient to use and has many discounts
Easy to use- just show the QR code and they know how to process it. We went on the Uradome Boat tour, went to the Sand Museum, and ate dinner at Takumi Kappo. Great deal!
For this trip, I purchased the Kansai Wide Area Pass and the Tottori Pass combo. I took the Super Hakuto train from Osaka to Tottori, and used the Tottori Pass to get free admission to the Sand Museum. Every sand sculpture in the museum is a masterpiece, making it well worth a visit.
