Fantastic

Wonderful onsen hotel. Some commented the hotel is "dated", thats most likely comparing to hotel in the city which is not fair comparison. For a hotel up in the mountains, this is a great hotel with spacious room. Private onsen for family is barely 2000 yen extra or 1 hour which is very cheap. Dinner buffet is great, not the best because a lot of touristsg group which kind of rush the kitchen to rush food out. But breakfast is wonderful and more enjoyable for sure. I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit this area.

Worse hotel ever, avoid at all cost, rooms were old, mouldy with dead insects, the smell was bad. Buffet dinner and breakfast was chaotic.

Excellent restaurant with a fantastic buffet breakfast. We stayed in one of the "Kumo" rooms which had nice views of Mount Aso. Would recommend to others.

The facilities are not well maintained. There was no security check or a staff at the entrance of the onsen, ended up a boy with 10-11 years old entered the ladies onsen.

The property was nice, but common restrooms smell. Not sure if the cleaning process caused it or something else. The lobby and also staircase common restrooms both smell.

This hotel seems to have lost its mojo. I think it might have been excellent in the 50s and 60s but today it’s a bit outdated and drab. The older staff do not speak any English some of the younger staff need to be called to translate. The room had no character but the view out the window was pretty nice. The saving grace was the dinner and breakfast buffet. The reason I stayed here was it was the only hotel near Kumamoto that had a room on a Saturday night. At $350 I expected more.
