This is a traditional Japanese hotel. Very different from what most western tourists accustomed to. No reception or check in. Very expensive. Rooms are large. There are signs of wear and tear everywhere. The traditional dinner is very expensive and literally inedible. Note: we are very familiar with Japanese cuisine but this was terrible. After not being able to eat anything during the dinner, we opted to Western style breakfast. Could not eat it too. Was terrible. There is no onsen/spa on premises. If you are coming from abroad and want authentic Japanese ryokan, think twice before coming to this one. This is my first negative review I've ever left, but I felt compelled to warn other fellow travelers.

We recently stayed at Kinjohro during our visit to Kanazawa. The staff were truly wonderful, incredibly courteous, attentive, and eager to help. Their hospitality was warm and genuine, and they were easily the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, the property itself did not live up to the expectations set by the price point. The building feels quite worn, with threadbare carpets and bathrooms that could benefit from a much deeper cleaning and maintenance. We also woke up with multiple bug bites, which raised concerns for us about the overall cleanliness of the rooms. We were especially excited for the dining experience, but both dinner and breakfast were disappointing. The dinner lacked the depth of flavor we were expecting, and while the presentation was nice, the meal overall felt underwhelming. Breakfast was similar, and on the second morning our eggs were served completely cold. We had really looked forward to staying here and experiencing what we thought would be a special property in Kanazawa. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed. At a significantly lower price point, this experience might feel more reasonable, but at the current rate, guests expect a much higher level of quality and attention to detail. The staff were exceptional, but overall the property itself did not meet the standards we had hoped for.

Traditional stay in beautiful room & hotel. As non Japanese speakers the staff tried really hard with Google translate to communicate with us which was appreciated. Food was delicious & different each day. The garden view from the rooms & dining area were lovely. The only minor complaint was the hard Japanese style pillow which seemed to be full of rice or some kind of grain??? We tried to embrace it as part of the experience! Great location, can walk everywhere and/or there is a bus stop outside the hotel. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful ryokan and the room itself was great. Peaceful, traditional, with a beautiful well-kept garden. Unfortunately, the staff spoke very poor English, to the point that communication was difficult. Also, they insisted on rigid timelines for breakfast and dinner: they come knocking on your door for each meal -- it felt a bit as if I am living in a dorm. Most importantly, I did not appreciate that you forced me to checkout at 10:30am, when the official checkout is 11am. No explanation given. Also, drinks during the "free" (included in price) kaiseki dinner are not free, and this was unclear -- I got a bill on the last day. Location of this ryokan is great and staff are very friendly. I just felt that they were a little intrusive in our days.

Very traditional Japanese hotel. Enjoyed the experience but as an American, I didn’t think the food was very good and I typically love Japanese food. There was an excessive use of gelatin coating on many of the dishes. Also, 2.25 hours for dinner was too long. We waited 15 mins after finishing each course to get the next one.

Interesting traditional inn but modern facilities. Staff guide you around the property, which is quite unusual when you're used to staying in standars hotels. Staff have varying levels of English but thanks to Google translate it didn't cause any problems. Slight miscommunication about our check out time, but it was resolved and we found our way out of the hotel(!)
