We’ve waited for what feels like a lifetime to see season 3 of the hit Netflix series ‘The Crown’ grace our screens again, and now the wait is almost over. So once you’ve finished binge-watching the new season this weekend, why not channel your inner King or Queen and take a trip on one of these royal UK adventures?
If you’re wondering which trips to choose, we’re here to help.
Just like the Queen, we know that you enjoy the finer things in life, which is why a visit to The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College should be on your list of royal recommendations. Often referred to as the UK’s Sistine Chapel, you’re in for a right royal treat when you witness the floor to ceiling murals of gods and heroes that were once created for naval veterans. Recently restored, this magnificent hall is not to be missed.
Visit the home of Greenwich Meantime at the Royal Observatory and learn all about the past, present, and future of astronomy and space. Situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, you can experience one of the city’s finest views as you look out over the River Thames and the famous Canary Wharf skyline. Along with these iconic views, you’ll be able to geek out at the Great Equatorial Telescope, a dome that contains the seventh largest telescope in the world. Whether you’re admiring the view or the stars, or standing astride the Meridian Line with one foot in the Eastern Hemisphere and one foot in the Western Hemisphere, we’re sure you’ll have a meaningful time (sorry!).
From the Royal Observatory to the Royal Albert Hall, you’ll be in awe of the outstanding architecture of this iconic London building. Walk in the footsteps of UK pop royalty such as The Beatles and Adele as you enjoy a guided tour through the world-famous auditorium. Next up is the Gallery, a platform around the top of the auditorium where people can have dinner while enjoying breathtaking views of the stage below. End the tour with even more great views overlooking Hyde Park in the Royal Retiring Room, formerly the private quarters of King Edward VII.
From there, take a walk into nearby Hyde Park and you’ll come across the majestic Kensington Palace where you’ll be able to explore the home of Queen Victoria, William III, Queen Anne, and now Prince William and Kate.
The best news yet is that if you’ve Klooked it, you’ll get a feel for what living like a royal is truly like as you skip the queues and wander through exquisite rooms and through the beautiful Sunken Gardens.
Venture further afield and admire Kew Gardens and Palace, a world UNESCO site that used to be King George III’s private retreat.
What makes Kew Gardens so special you may ask? Well, it’s actually home to the world’s largest and most diverse collection of plants, so be prepared to see some weird, wonderful, and always colourful plant life. But, not all the fun is found at ground level – experience the Treetop Walkway, the most compelling tree-top experience in the UK and get up-close and personal with the gardens majestic trees, and let’s not forget some more great views.
If you’re still in the mood for making some majestic memories, we’d recommend heading out on a royal road trip to visit Windsor Castle in all its glory. We all have our favourite place to escape to at the weekends, and Windsor Castle just so happens to be the Queen’s top weekend getaway. An informative audio guide will lead you through the stunning grounds and through the halls of the castle where the walls are furnished with original paintings by Rembrandt and Rubens. The oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle will definitely be up there as one of your favourite royal experiences, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch the Changing of the Guard.
If these reigning activities aren’t what His or Her Highness is looking for, why not keep looking?
