A cycling trip to the Ichinomiya area of Shiso City ― Tracing the history and fermented culture of Harima Province ―

Head to the Ichinomiya area of Shiso City, which played an important role in the nation-building of Harima Province. This area was once the center of faith and politics as “Harima no Kuni Ichinomiya,” and the “Harima no Kuni Fudoki” (Records of the Culture and Geography of Harima Province) contains descriptions of sake brewing, said to be the oldest in Japan. This time, it’s a cycling tour that delves into the roots of such history and fermented culture.

While cycling along the back roads of the satoyama (foothills) where idyllic rural landscapes spread out, you’ll see scenery that makes you feel the local history, such as hand-dug tunnels that convey the old way of life to the present day. You can enjoy the calm scenery unique to satoyama, proceeding along quiet roads with little traffic.

To “Yamazaki Sake Brewery Street,” where several sake breweries are still scattered. The trip concludes leisurely, touching upon the historic townscape and the culture of sake brewing that is still passed down today.

For lunch, we offer a fermented food lunch that is a welcome treat after exercising on your bike. You can enjoy the deliciousness unique to fermented foods, which gently rebalance your body after a ride.

Tour participant benefits: After disbanding, you will receive a ticket for Himeji Station’s famous “Ekisoba” (station soba). You can enjoy the taste of Himeji along with the lingering memories of your cycling trip.
