What to expect
- A grand palace banquet embodies half of Chinese etiquette; culinary traditions passed down through millennia, a banquet igniting a new national trend.
- The restaurant is themed around the ancient imperial court, with decor and furnishings designed in a classic style, creating a rich historical atmosphere. The interior is exquisitely decorated in various styles, such as the Qin Dynasty style, reflecting Qin culture from the lighting to the decorative details, allowing customers to feel as if they have traveled back to the ancient imperial court.
- As the first "traditional culture" performance restaurant in Songjiang District, Shanghai, Sheng Gong Yan deeply integrates ancient culture, performance arts, and imperial banquets, bringing diners a unique and immersive experience. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you will find yourself in a cultural space filled with royal ambiance.
- Sheng Gong Yan takes "culinary etiquette" culture as its core, using rich performance forms such as ancient musical instrument performances, traditional operas, classical dance, dramas, musicals, and operas, allowing you to deeply experience the charm of traditional culture while enjoying the delicacies. From the welcoming rituals to the serving ceremonies, it's as if you are traveling through time and space, placing yourself in an ancient royal banquet.
- Sheng Gong Yan takes the prosperous eras of past dynasties as its background, reproducing elegant banquet scenes from aspects such as banquets, food, etiquette, and music. We innovate the presentation of dishes, shifting diners' focus from simple dining to an in-depth experience of Chinese traditional culture. Each dish is an epitome of history, and each banquet is a cultural journey.
- Sheng Gong Yan is not only a feast for the taste buds but also a living museum of Chinese traditional culture. We take "food" as the carrier, innovatively integrating court etiquette, intangible cultural heritage performances, and contemporary dining experiences, reshaping for urbanites "a touchable history, a palatable culture." This 90-minute dining experience is a double feast of sight and taste.

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience despite going alone. It was my birthday lol The performance is amazing as well as the presentation. One thing I have to note tho is that it can get pretty fast changing between meals. However, if you haven’t finished the meal yet, you can tell the server and it’ll be okay. The food is not spectacular but I was stuffed! I liked the meat balls hehe They also refill your tea and wine. If you’re still hungry I think you can get seconds. The people beside me did lol I can’t speak Mandarin tho
What an awesome experience, definitely one of the highlights of our trip in Shanghai! The food was exceptional, they catered according to our dietary requirements. We love every dish esp the soups, fish and the noodles that were of the right texture and skilfully made thin. The performance was absolutely breathtaking, there was even playing of traditional chinese instruments.. The performance team definitely made our day with their sincere smiles and stage presence! Getting VIP seats is super worth it!! Just wished our server was as gentle, friendly and grounded as the other servers :)
The Shanghai Shenggong Banquet offers a truly unique and memorable immersive experience that brings the grandeur of the Qin Dynasty to life. From the moment you enter, you are transported back in time through detailed set design, period costumes, and carefully curated rituals that reflect ancient Chinese court culture. The performances are a highlight of the experience, recreating historical ceremonies, music, and storytelling that deepen the sense of immersion. The banquet-style dining is visually impressive and thoughtfully presented, with dishes inspired by traditional Chinese cuisine. Overall, the Shanghai Shenggong Banquet is a captivating journey into the Qin era and a standout immersive cultural experience that is well worth attending.
Excellent Imperial dining experience. We are treated like the emperor and empress. The food is great and the dance performance is nice and enjoyable. Highly recommended.
We visited Shanghai Shenggong Banquet and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is located a bit far from the city center—about an hour’s drive—but it’s well worth the trip. The ambience is fantastic, and we really enjoyed the live performance. The food is exquisite and delicious, making the whole experience memorable. Our group included a 2-year-old, and the restaurant thoughtfully provided her with her own set and seat. For an even more immersive experience, we recommend wearing hanfu for a photoshoot at the end—it really adds to the charm of the visit.
My experience at the Shanghai Grand Palace Banquet was a mixed bag of positives and negatives. Transportation and Time Management: The location is quite far from downtown Shanghai, about a 1 hour and 20 minute drive each way. The biggest issue is the time commitment: whether you are willing to spend a lot of time putting on makeup before the meal, and then taking off makeup and changing clothes after (a total of over an hour). This really depends on the individual and whether they are willing to go through all that trouble. Performance Experience: The performance was the highlight of the evening! The show was excellent, and the interaction between the performers and the audience was very good. The atmosphere was lively, which is very commendable. Food and Beverage: The presentation of the dishes was very unique, with a great visual effect. However, the taste of the food has a lot of room for improvement. Considering the price and the travel, the flavors were a bit ordinary. Summary: The performance was excellent, but the process arrangement and food taste need improvement. If you don't like the complicated changing process, I suggest you consider it carefully.
if you are an adventurous foodie and are interested in Chinese culture, this is the place to be. i have thoroughly enjoyed the food and performance - the staff have done an amazing job and services
Incredible experience! I provided an outside photo so that when one of you guys wants to try it and just wants to take the MRT, you can spot it easily. It took me 20 minutes to figure out where the banquet hall was, haha. So, I’ll give you an idea of which building it’s in. When you exit the MRT, look to the left and you’ll see the building that I uploaded. Thank me later. Muah! 😘
We had a memorable dining experience at Shanghai Shenggong Banquet. The restaurant is a little outside the city, but the journey is worth it for the stunning atmosphere and impressive performances. The dishes were beautifully presented and full of flavor. Our little one, just 2 years old, was well accommodated with her own seat and meal. For a special touch, trying on hanfu at the end for photos adds a lot of fun to the visit.
