What are the requirements for participating?

Thailand has experienced severe deforestation, leaving many elephants without a home. Kindred Spirit is fortunate to be surrounded by a vast forest that provides enough food for elephants to live freely year-round. Your support not only transforms the lives of these elephants but also benefits the local community through various programs and donations to the village. Unlike most elephant venues, Kindred Spirit is a registered non-profit foundation, dedicated to ethical conservation rather than business.

Where are the elephants from?

At Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary, elephants belong to families within the local Karen communities. These elephants have been part of the families for many generations. Kindred Spirit pay the local communities a monthly salary for compensation. This enables Kindred Spirit to secure elephants’ freedom without contributing to illegal trade.

Why do elephants need to be kept in captivity?

Elephant tourism in Thailand is a highly complex issue. Unfortunately, due to extensive deforestation, many elephants have nowhere to live in the wild without tourism support. The collaboration between Kindred Spirit and the local communities aim to improve the welfare and future of all captive elephants through ethical practices.
