What Shinkansen trains and JR trains are covered?
JR-WEST All Area Pass allows for travel on various trains within the designated area. It covers reserved and non-reserved seats on the “Sanyo Shinkansen” which runs between Shin-Osaka and Hakata, including the Hello Kitty Shinkansen. It also includes reserved seats on “Hokuriku Shinkansen” which runs between Kanazawa and Joetsu-Myoko and Limited Express Trains such as Haruka, Kuroshio, Thunderbird, Kounotori, Super Hakuto and Yakumo. The pass is also valid on Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and Local trains on JR West Conventional lines. Additionally, it can be used on JR West Miyajima Ferry and West Japan JR Bus routes within the valid area, excluding expressway buses.
What are not covered by JR-WEST All Area Pass?
JR-WEST All Area Pass does not cover certain train services, including the Bullet Train "Tokaido Shinkansen" between Shin-Osaka and Tokyo and the Bullet Train "Kyushu Shinkansen" between Hakata and Kagoshima-Chuo.

Booking guidelines
- All passengers must have their travel documents (passports, ID cards, valid visas) ready prior to boarding
- Select a redemption date and fill in your information. You can redeem your pass at the major JR West station.
Pass eligibility
- Free for children aged 0-1
- Up to two children (ages 1-5) travel free with an adult rail pass holder if they don't occupy a seat. A child rail pass is needed for each additional child starting from the third
- Valid only for non-Japanese passport holders with a "Temporary Visitor" Visa stamp on the passport. Non-Japanese passport holders with a permanent residence in Japan cannot use this product
- Secure a Temporary Visitor Stamp at immigration to be eligible for a JR Pass. Do not pass through the automated gates, as no stamp will be applied

Notice of redemption of reserved seating for JR-West Rail Pass
- Different passes can be redeemed for a different number of times of reserved seating tickets. Please check the product page for details.
- Please check each product page for the achievable train for reserved seating.
- The reserved seating for the pass must be redeemed separately (make a reservation at the green machine or window).
- The pass can be used to take non-reserved seating directly when the number of times reserved seating runs out or if there is no prior redemption of reserved seating ticket.
- Unlimited rides of reserved seating tickets can be redeemed, it requires a manual reservation at the green window when using for the seventh time and above, and the machine is not able to redeem directly.
Reserved seat tickets can be exchanged for unlimited times. ※From the 7th time, you need to manually reserve tickets at the green window.

The instructions to claim the pass are very clear. You just have to find the right machine at the station. When you claim it, you can select the date when you're gonna use it, so you can claim the ticket beforehand. Worth the money if you travel a lot in the west. I travel from Kyoto Kanazawa, Osaka, Hiroshima (and ferry to Miyajima), Himeji, Osaka with daytrips to Nara and Kobe.
Great savings with this pass. Just make sure you plan your itinerary very well to maximize the pass. And read those included to avoid surprises along the way. Overall will recommend. We were able to go to Osaka, Kyoto, Himeji, Hiroshima and Fukuoka.
This pass covered all the regions we wanted to visit including Kyoto, Kanazawa, Himeji and even Hiroshima, and saved us half the cost if we had purchased individual tickets! Redemption of JR pass was done through the physical counter. Afterwhich, simply exchange for individual journey tickets via the machines when reservation of seat is required. When entering the turnstile gates, insert the JR pass. Seamless experience, would recommend!
this pass will help you explore the western part of japan from kanazawa to osaka to fukuoka area it helps us a lot to save more money to and put at ease travel.

This is a pass that covers a wide area, from Hakata up to Osaka and as far as Toyama. You can travel to many areas such as Mojiko, Hiroshima, Okayama, Himeji, Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Shirakawa-go, or Toyama, all the way to Takaoka Onsen. You can ride the Shinkansen, express trains, and JR Line buses.
bought this pass ahead of my winter trip in Jan 2026. although klook is asking for review ahead of my trip, I've bought regional jr passes from klook several times without issue. easy to redeem and use and usually better price and promo compare to other platform. I've intend to use this pass to make day trips from Kyoto to Hiroshima, tokuyama, Takamatsu, yamaguchi, amanohashidate, tottori. and hakata. photos from my recent summer trip with Hiroshima pass (also bought on klook)
