Reviews
During the annual Chiang Mai Sky Lantern Festival, the entire city attracts tourists from all over the world. The entire event is worth enjoying the local traditional food and activities in Chiang Mai.
They are pretty responsive via email and informed me in the first place that this is not the CAD sky lantern activity (not sure why people are blaming this as a fake activity). The downside is I booked their regular seat which is priced higher than the premium option. The bus is quite alright although we were delayed like 1 hour due to slow check in process (the supervisor is late !!). Slightly smaller than what they informed me (600-800 people), but the snacks offered are nice - not the buffet dinner - which is meh (except the khao soi). Seat allocation are not monitored so people sit randomly. Furthermore, we are not dropped at Tha Phae Gate as per the itinerary, and skipped a temple called Wat Baan Den.
Premium wasn’t that good to buy. The seats at the event didn’t have the correct number, and everyone (not premium) sat randomly there. I only got 3 lanterns, and someone took 1 of my lanterns. I suppose I get 4 lanterns in total from premium. I still have a line to get inside the school. 🙃💔
The event was very nice, not overcrowded but not small either, just the right amount of people for everyone to have the space to light up the lanterns.
Disappointing Event – Poor Organization I attended this event recently, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I admit I didn’t research thoroughly and confused this with another water lamp/lantern festival. For anyone considering this event, please note: it is not the oldest or biggest festival and definitely not the one with 10,000 lanterns as advertised elsewhere. The organization was chaotic from start to finish. At the meeting point (Maya), a couple hundred of people were left confused without proper instructions. Queues were a mess, with no control over people cutting in line, and it took over an hour just to board the buses. Upon arrival, we were left to “treasure hunt” for our seat tags, followed by vague instructions to walk around the temple with no clear next steps. We later had to move to a different area, again without guidance. The seating was unregulated, making seat numbers meaningless, and premium seating was unclear. Some regular ticket holders ended up in premium seats and received extra lanterns. The event also included dinner, but this wasn’t properly communicated. The dining area didn’t seem sufficient for everyone, so many people missed out. There were also performances, but they took place at a stage with no seating, requiring attendees to stand throughout. The lantern photo on Klook is misleading; they create the impression of a grand event with thousands of lanterns. In reality, with only about 200–300 attendees, the lantern release felt underwhelming, lacking the impact shown in promotional images. While I can’t blame anyone but myself for signing up for the wrong event, the organization of this festival desperately needs improvement. If you’re looking for a spectacular, well-run Loy Krathong experience, this is not it.
Although I understand this was a charity event, there was way too much disorganization. The logistics of the check in process, quality of main course, leaving on buses, etc was not ran effectively. Ex: once we got on site, you had to find the same badge number associated with your ticket. it was a free for all and everyone was in a frenzy looking for their badge. No sorting by alphabet, number, nothing. There was also no point in assigning people by bus number since everyone is going to the same place. The lanterns was beautiful but there was fireworks only for ten seconds compared to other cheaper events with a lot more fireworks. I’m glad the school received more funding but for the $150 USD that we paid, I think much needed to improve
could not find our tour guide even though we were there early. it was chaotic because all agencies require meet up outside the mall, everyone was angry and fighting because people have been waiting hours outside in the heat. and seemed like others also couldn’t find their agencies as well.
this ticket is sold as fake festival ticket. you will be taken to a place far from the city center and where the fake festival is held with very few people. the price is more expensive than the real festival ticket. very disappointed. don't be like me
No guide at the MAYA and we were dropped off back to MAYA instead of Tha Phae Gate.
Five stars for service satisfaction are given to the staff at the event site (in the school)! A satisfaction score of 2 points means there is a serious shortage of personnel for the check-in process. There is only one staff member to handle the check-in of 4 to 500 people, which is a serious delay and inefficiency!
