check in time is 4 p.m. that 's too late , should be 3 p.m. If you come early you have to stand downstair because the elevator will start to work from check in time or have to wait for customer who has the code to open the main door and climb to the third floor which is the lobby room . No locker to keep your luggage . I stay In private room only have one bed no other facilities in the room , not suitable for the price.

We had a great stay at Otaru Yado. Easy, 5 minute walk from the Otaru JR terminal, partially under the covered street. If you’re skiing Kiroro while you’re in town, the Hokkaido Resort Liner has a stop directly across the street at a neighbouring hotel making it easy to get to the hill if you book through them! (Otherwise you can book through the Kiroro resort website and catch a bus right at the Otaru Station). Location was great, really good restaurants nearby and the canal within walking distance. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and stored our ski bag behind reception so we had more space in our bedroom. The shared bathrooms were insanely clean! Coin laundry machines were available for use as well. Cozy common area and kitchen beside the reception. We’re not usually ones to complain about the beds, but the bed in our double private room was extremely hard. This was our only complaint for our stay. We stayed for 4 nights, and I wouldn’t let the hard beds stop you from staying here (after all, most beds we’ve stayed in in Japan seem to be pretty hard overall)!

Solo stay · For leisure

Actually, I was lucky. Because when I arrived there, there was the Korean agent. Unfortunately, there was no Korean menu/guide for me but he was so kind to let me know what rules should I obey. Very clean and calm at that time because when I went there, there was only me in women's dormitory. Men's area and Women's area are seperated by doorlock(women's area needs to pass through men's hall). Ahh if you expect toothbrush and toothpaste, and towels, then you have to pay a little. In case of toothbrush set, it is 100 yen and the towels I don't remember but it was cheap.( I prepared my own towels :) ) Not that far from Otaru station, close to sushi road and otaru canal as well. From 4pm, it is almost dark so that you can enjoy the light of canal. Unfortunately, there was no snow yet, but if you go in Dec or Jan, maybe you can see the beautiful status of canal as you expected.

Fantastic
The hostel is newly opened in Oct. During my stay (4days), my room was not fully occupied so it seems that not many people are aware of it yet. Staff are super nice and friendly, they could speak English as well. Bathroom and clean and beds are comfortable (but it's quite similar to tatami not sure if everyone likes it). They do provide complimentary coffee/tea/green tea in public area for self-service. Location is great and it takes about 10mins to reach famous attractions nearby, e.g. Otaru Canel, Sakaimachi, etc. It's also close to Otaru JR station. Highly recommended for everyone.
