FantasticStayed with partner
The breakfast was wonderful. Many options available and delicious. Our room was clean and comfortable. And the train/bus station was a four minute walk.

Nice exterior, with parking for residents. Rushed ‘check in’ at the bar meant I was charged in full despite already paying a deposit. Thanks to Iain for organising the refund.
Hall and stairs to rooms looked unclean. Handrails were sticky to touch, repairs to walls were dreadful. Stair carpet needs cleaned.
Room 10 was comfortable and was a good size. Bed was clean and comfortable. Towels were clean and fresh. However the bathroom was well below standard, the flooring was wrinkled in various areas of the bathroom and definitely a trip hazard. The shower was just about functioning and alternating between hot and cold water with very little pressure. Other than the window ledge there was nowhere to keep toiletries and the blind had to be kept down at all times as we were overlooked. Disappointing considering the £180 a night premium room charge.
Breakfast was enjoyable. Good varied menu.
Staff were generally pleasant. Didn’t see any staff at check out as they were busy with breakfast meaning we just left our room key on the bar.
Overall this was an ok stay but it could have been a lot better. Disappointing sadly.

Pet friendly hotel with free parking but limited spaces. The room was basic, the room we stayed in had a street light outside, which the blind didn't do much to keep that out all night. The bed was very firm which wasn't our preference may suit others. The shower was low pressure and took a while to get to temperature. If you just want a bed for the night it's serviceable but wouldn't personally stay more than one night.

GreatStayed with family · For friends and family
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Lamplighter in Windermere. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and in a fantastic location for exploring the Lake District. Windermere is such a great little town — beautiful, relaxing, and full of charm. We loved walking around, exploring the local shops and restaurants, and taking in the scenery. The evening staff at the hotel were absolutely wonderful from the moment we checked in. Dinner service was excellent, everyone was friendly and welcoming, and they even took the time to give us recommendations for things to do in the area, which made our trip even better. Unfortunately, our checkout experience was not nearly as positive. There was apparently an internet issue with the hotel’s payment system that caused all of my cards to be declined. The morning clerk, Fernando, repeatedly insisted the issue was on my end, despite me explaining that multiple cards were failing. This conversation happened in front of other guests, which honestly felt embarrassing and uncomfortable. Later it became clear that the issue was actually with the hotel’s own system and not my cards at all. What disappointed me most was that there was never any apology or acknowledgment after realizing the mistake. A simple apology would have gone a long way.
That said, aside from the unfortunate checkout interaction, the rest of the staff and our overall stay were genuinely very good, and we would still recommend both The Lamplighter and Windermere.

The menu was good, but not exceptional. The staff were very helpful, but we did not realise that the hotel was going to be full of dogs. The were seven tables in the dining area and six had dogs at them. The carpets smelled of stale dog in all their form. The carpets were stained especially in the bedroom that we occupied.
