Great I stayed at Central YMCA Residences while transitioning into my new apartment and beginning a new chapter of my life here in Hawaii. From the very beginning, the staff made me feel welcomed and helped turn a big life change into a much easier experience.
I especially want to recognize Christine. Every once in a while you meet someone who leaves an impression on you, and Christine was definitely that person for me. She was always kind, helpful, genuine, and had a way of making every interaction feel easy and comfortable.
Not only is she amazing at what she does, she is gorgeous, so much so it is hard not to notice. Some people just naturally brighten your day, and Christine did exactly that.
Thank you Christine, and thank you to everyone at Central YMCA Residences for making my first days in Hawaii something I’ll always remember.

The price is too good to be true. From dirty rooms, to broken floors and un maintained common areas, you're better off putting more money into a place that's at MINIMUM air conditioned. With the lack of cleanliness came bugs and other things throughout the night. Only when people complained numerous times about broken elevators, broken floor tiles, common areas being out of utilities would anything get done. They claim a cleaning crew comes once a week, and you do see people that at least look the part. But, good luck convincing anyone staying there of that. The only true benefit of staying here is that everything is within walking distance, including better, cleaner places to stay. Unless a dirty, one fan, one outlet room sounds like your ideal tropical stay; do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on somewhere that actually takes care of its guests.

Very dirty place. The bathrooms smelled like pee. My bed sheets were never changed and the room was never cleaned. There is no AC in the rooms. My room was overlooking a parking garage, which was making a lot of noise from the people there, the cars, and some strange sounds from the electric wires. It was difficult to sleep. It looks like the tourists and longer-term social residents are mixed. So, I found myself among socially troubled residents of the YMCA, which probably should be a separation. Very few young people stayed there, and they looked shocked. Basically this place is a shelter or previously homeless or socially troubled people, who are on special YMCA programs. It is okay to stay here if it is your only option, but the YMCA could have done a better job in hosting young short-term tourists.

Everything was okay. Just mid- not bad, but could be a little bit more cleaner.

The area is safe and quite. It's very close to Waikiki. The price is very competitive. They don't provide toothpaste or soap. You just need to bring your own.

GoodSolo stay
Honolulu has few budget options especially near Waikiki. This has a a great location but is the definition of basic. With no air conditioning or parking, best to bring all your amenities with you, and be prepared for half the resident guests to be using walkers.
