Taiping is the second-largest city in Perak, often overshadowed by the more popular and well-known Ipoh, yet offering just as much to see and do! This charming old town is blessed with well-preserved colonial architecture, historical buildings, fine gardens, the oldest hill resort in the country, and even the oldest museum in Peninsular Malaysia. Here are some must-visit spots to add onto your Taiping itinerary:

Did you know that Taiping Zoo is Malaysia's oldest zoo? First established in 1961, it is today home to over 1,200 animals and doubles up as a conservation and research center. Its 'residents' include endangered species such as the Malayan Tiger, and other animals like orangutans, rhinos, giraffes, crocodiles, and more. The zoo even tranforms into a night safari after the sky turns dark!
