If you're up for an experience you just won't find anywhere - a trip to New Zealand's famous Waitomo Glowworm cave should be on your list!
Travel back in time to over 100 years ago and experience the Waitomo Caves like Maori Chief Tane Tinorau and English surveyor Fred Mace did when they first discovered the magical light illuminated by the glowworms.
What can you see?
Given its sheer size, you'll be taken on a boat ride to enjoy your journey under the glowing caves formed over 30 million years above you. You'll see stalactites shining from dew, and the dots of light covering the roof of the cave and reflected in the grotto.
You will have a guide who will share local legends and stories about the cave that has been passed down from Maori generation to generation.
There are two levels you can explore - the upper level is where the cave formations are showcased and the lower level consists of stream passages and the illuminating glowworms for you to be in awe with!
Where is it and how can I get there?
Located in New Zealand's north island, Waitomo Caves are easily accessible from the capital, Auckland (it's only a 30-minute drive away!) If you're coming from Rotorua, it's a 2-hour drive away.
Address: 39 Waitomo Caves Road, Waitomo | Private Bag 501, Otorohanga
