Scenic Area Introduction
- Leifeng Pagoda, also known as "Huangfei Pagoda," is located on Leifeng Mountain on the southern bank of the West Lake Scenic Area. Many people's "Leifeng Pagoda complex" originates from the legend of the White Snake. Although the old pagoda collapsed in 1924, the current one was newly built on the original foundation, equipped with elevators and air conditioning, which does not hinder you from coming here to trace the footsteps of the White Snake.
Scenic Highlights
- The architecture itself is a major highlight of the scenic area. The newly built pagoda is more like a museum, with 5 floors from the base upwards. After checking in, you can take an elevator (or climb the stairs next to it) to the pagoda's foundation ruins. Here, you can see the broken base of the old pagoda enclosed by glass, with coins scattered all over the ground, which is also a sight to behold. This floor also features an exhibition of cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace, including a very exquisite Ashoka Pagoda. Further up, on the ground floor of the pagoda, there is an exhibition of large Dongyang wood carvings and a very detailed mural of "The Legend of the White Snake." From here, you continue upwards to officially ascend the pagoda. There are walking stairs and escalators inside, and most of the time, you need to queue.
- Ascend the pagoda to enjoy the panoramic view of the West Lake Scenic Area. Each floor of the pagoda displays some poems and murals, but most people ascend the pagoda to enjoy the scenery. The view from above is excellent; you can not only see the panoramic view of the West Lake Scenic Area but also overlook the entire Jingci Temple opposite. Especially at night, the lights outline the entire lake, creating a captivating scene. Other attractions besides the pagoda include small scenic spots such as Xizhao Pavilion, Miaoyin Terrace, and Leifeng Pagoda Scenic Area - Releasing Pond. Among them, in the Leifeng Pagoda Scenic Area - Releasing Pond in front of the pagoda, there is a huge rockery covered with released land turtles; in the Leifeng Pagoda Scenic Area - Buddha Relic Museum, you can see the Buddha's ushnisha relic.
