Nara Park Area Nara Park is one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots. Home to thousands of deer considered “messengers of the gods,” the park adds endless vitality and interest to the ancient landscape. Interacting with the gentle deer on the open lawns, with ancient temples in the background, is the most healing experience Nara has to offer. Todai-ji Temple is Japan’s largest wooden structure temple and a World Heritage Site, famous for its “Great Buddha Hall” and the “Rushana Buddha” (Nara Great Buddha). The temple houses a 57-meter-high bronze Buddha statue, which is also Japan’s largest bronze Buddha statue. The statue is dignified in shape and exquisite in craftsmanship, demonstrating the superb Buddhist statue art of ancient Japan. Kasuga Taisha Shrine is one of Japan’s most sacred religious sites. Its architectural style is typical Kasuga-style, with gold and vermilion as the main colors. The vermilion lacquer, white walls, and cypress bark roofs complement each other. More than 2,000 stone lanterns are neatly arranged along the roads leading to the main hall, and there are more than a thousand bronze lanterns in the main hall.
Mount Yoshino A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Yoshino is known as “Ichimoku Senbon” (a thousand trees at a glance) and is famous for its more than 30,000 cherry trees, making it one of Japan’s top cherry blossom viewing destinations. The mountain is home to many shrines and temples with more than 100 years of history, such as Kinpusen-ji Temple, the head temple of Shugendo, whose Zao-do Hall houses a more than 7-meter-high bronze statue of Zao Gongen. In addition, Mount Yoshino is also the former imperial residence of Emperor Go-Daigo in the 14th century when he was exiled, with a profound historical and cultural heritage.
