Marking the upcoming 500th anniversary of the discovery of Iwami Ginzan and the 20th anniversary of its World Heritage inscription in 2027, the Ancient Orient Museum presents a special exhibition as the opening event for these commemorations. This exhibition traces the history of silver, from humanity’s first encounters with metals through to early modern Japan.
Through ancient Near Eastern personal ornaments, silver vessels, a diverse array of coins, and historic materials associated with Iwami Ginzan, visitors can follow the journey of how silver connected people and the world. Experience the captivating charm and history of silver at this major exhibition—the first full-scale presentation of Iwami Ginzan in Tokyo.

A wide variety of events themed around the exhibition are scheduled, including gallery talks discussing display highlights, lectures, online seminars, and hands-on workshops. Night Museum events will be held on Sunday, October 18, and Friday, November 20, with extended opening hours until 8:00 PM (Last admission at 7:30 PM).
Additionally, on Sunday, October 18, the "Marutto Iwami Fest" will take place at the Sunshine City Fountain Square. The event will feature sales of local specialties, tourist information, live stage performances of Iwami Kagura, and an appearance by Shimanekko! A special event featuring Tomokazu Seki, who provided the voice guide for this special exhibition, will also be held.
