Great experience. The shop owners were very friendly, informative and encouraging, with genuine willingness to share their experiences in tofu pudding making. They were also super nice and accommodated to the last minute booking we made. We had an amazing time learning about tofu pudding making, and tasting the beancurd we made as well. The boat ride took about 20 minutes, it was interesting to see houses built on stilts, just do not expect to see dolphins as sighting is rare. Do note that the address provided by Klook is wrong, the tofu making class is at 82 Kat Hing Street instead. Highly recommended for unique local experience.
This tofu pudding making experience was truly wonderful! I learned about the traditional methods of the boat people and Hakka people for grinding soybeans to make soy milk, which was really interesting. Being able to make tofu pudding with my own hands felt particularly rewarding. Ms. Ying was very kind and patiently taught us how to make tofu pudding, making the whole process easy and fun. The venue was very clean, and Ms. Ying's explanation was also very clear, making it easier for us to understand each step. This is a highly recommended and fun experience! The boat ride experience was also very special, with breathtaking scenery along the way.
The workshop was excellent, and the instructor was very accommodating. After we made tofu pudding, the instructor also provided materials to make peanut mochi afterward! The instructor was very accommodating regarding food allergies. One of the participants in the workshop had a nut allergy, and the instructor quickly separated the materials to minimize contamination and offered red bean filling for the mochi to the person with the allergy. The instructor also asked for our water bottles to fill them with the leftover soy milk that wasn't used for making the tofu pudding. The instructor does not speak English, but we understand Cantonese.
The staff are very nice and patient in teaching us how to make tofu pudding. They taught us the methods used by the Tanka people (large basin + pestle) and the Hakka people (stone mill) to grind soybeans into soy milk. Finally, we used the soy milk to make tofu pudding to eat. The tofu pudding tastes good! The boat ride experience is also good, and we were also lucky enough to see dolphins. This experience is worth recommending!
After purchasing tickets, someone contacted us via WhatsApp. The order of activities could be flexibly arranged. The boat tour experience was good, but the boat operator's explanation was too brief and only in Cantonese. Finally, the tofu pudding making included soy milk as a souvenir to take home, which was a nice experience.
Miss Ying's explanations were clear, the place was clean, and the experience was fun.
The activity arrangements were chaotic. We arrived on time, but the activity was repeatedly delayed to accommodate a tour group, and the person in charge had an average attitude. When the activity finally started, they took us to another branch, where the hygiene was mediocre, and they refused to turn on the air conditioning despite the hot weather. However, the elderly lady who taught us had an excellent service attitude; she joked with us and patiently guided us, even though we weren't familiar with the process. She also offered us snacks and helped us take photos. In the end, each person received a bowl of tofu pudding, plus an additional bowl of tofu pudding or soy milk. As for the ferry ticket, it was actually worth HKD 40. The scenery was nice, and the sea breeze was pleasant; we didn't see any dolphins, but we didn't feel disappointed.
I booked the 1 PM session, and after exchanging the boat tickets, I went to the tofu pudding shop. The staff there seemed surprised and questioned why we arrived an hour early, saying they received information that it was at 2 PM and they weren't ready yet, asking us to wander around for a while. Although we weren't in a hurry, we came to Tai O specifically for this experience (having already visited a month ago), so we weren't in a good mood. Maybe it was because we booked just the day before, so the arrangement felt a bit chaotic. But afterward, the shop owner enthusiastically introduced the tofu pudding making process. However, if you're going to Tai O specifically for this experience, it's not really worth it.
