What to expect
Immerse yourself in the rich historical heritage of Beijing as you enter the regal Beijing Summer Palace (Yiheyuan). As mandatory a Beijing sight as the Forbidden City or the Great Wall, the Summer Palace is one of the most popular landmarks in the city, and one of the best examples of an imperial garden in China. It greatly influences Chinese horticulture and landscape with its jaw dropping natural views. A ticket grants you entry to the main palace complex, including the Longevity Hill and the Long Corridor. You may also visit other attractions in the palace, such as the Garden of Virtue and Harmony, Wenchang Gallery, the Hall of Serenity, and the Tower of Buddhist Incense, for an additional cost. This place is a must-see for first-time Beijing visitors and history buffs.

I would suggest to spend a whole day there as the area is larger than Fobidden City and if you like gardens and boat rides. There is a 100-step temple to see the 千手观音 statue. The view up there is also spectacular and breathtaking. However do not eat at the dessert shop “The Palace Story” along the 长廊 as it is expensive and foodstuffs are small. A further walk of 200m will find many food stalls whereby the foods are more interesting and greater variety, like Peking Duck Roll/Wrap, 炸酱面, 烧饼, etc.
We had a great long day at the Summer Palace. we got in just at 12pm and did not leave until around 7:30pm. The place is HUGE and is beautiful. This is my 2nd time visiting, first time in 2017 and did not explore much at all but was able to take it all in this time. Our tickets did not include the boat ride, we had to purchase separately but it was well worth it, saved us a lot of walking and was able to see the scenery from the lake. Our ticket allowed us entry to all the different sites which was an excellent purchase. Purchase was quick and ticket redemption was a breeze with just a QR code. One QR code for the whole group which was very convenient so we didn't have to scan each member individually. They also didn't have to inspect passports. Excellent deal, would definitely purchase again from Klook.
The Summer Palace was even more amazing than I expected! The place is absolutely huge and incredibly beautiful. Our guide, Wendi, was fantastic and made the experience even more enjoyable. We also took a boat ride, and it was definitely worth it—it gave us a wonderful view of the palace and its surroundings. I was absolutely knackered by the end, but it was worth every step to visit such a beautiful and historic place.
Visiting the Summer Palace was an absolutely beautiful and relaxing experience. The scenery is stunning, with peaceful lakes, elegant bridges, and traditional architecture everywhere you look. Walking around the palace grounds felt calming and enjoyable, especially with the fresh air and open space. The place is rich in history and culture, and every corner feels photo-worthy. It’s perfect for sightseeing, slow walks, and appreciating Beijing’s imperial past. Overall, the Summer Palace is a must-visit attraction in Beijing. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys nature, history, and scenic views.
Our tour guide took great care of everyone, and each person felt like they received a one-on-one explanation. The storytelling was lively and engaging, never dull. The itinerary and the level of attentiveness were excellent. I highly recommend booking this tour when you visit Beijing; the Summer Palace is a must-see attraction.
Booking tickets for summer palace from klook was easy! They will first sent a confirmation within 48h but they will update the voucher/ticket a few days before the selected date of admission. Nevertheless, my tickets worked and we had a wonderful time at summer palace! Started from the north entrance and had to take a hike up before reaching flat ground which was nearer to the east gate. The park also had stunning views of each palace and buildings! Will book from klook again for my next trip to summer palace!
I bought the admission ticket and boat tour. Susie contacted one day before to meet in the Xinjiangngongmen gate. She guide us for the entrance and to take the boat. After taking the boat, we can go through the building in the Summer Palace and exit from East Gate
I was happy to visit the Summer Palace at a discounted price. If you book in advance on Klook, you can purchase an all-inclusive pass at a discounted price. If you are going on your own, I highly recommend purchasing the all-inclusive pass. You can truly appreciate the beauty of the Summer Palace. Be sure to purchase the Korean audio guide to enhance your experience. You'll see things differently when you understand the explanations. I do not recommend the Korean guide. They don't enter the paid areas of the Summer Palace and only talk from the outside. If you're traveling independently, I recommend the all-inclusive ticket + Korean audio guide.
Booking tickets is very convenient; you just scan the barcode to enter! It's important to note that some pavilions require an additional purchase, and you won't be able to enter with just a basic ticket. You definitely need to buy a combined ticket! The overall user experience is 5 stars, but when we went on a Sunday during the summer, it was incredibly crowded! So crowded that the quality of the garden visit was a bit diminished (though the scenery and landscape are beautiful). There were just so many people, basically shoulder-to-shoulder, so the garden experience only gets 3 stars from me. Averaging it out, I'll give it 4 stars. Everyone should consider their travel time carefully before booking tickets, as the experience can vary greatly!
The Summer Palace was quite cold and rainy when I visited, with a thick fog that obscured the views. However, it was still beautiful in its own way, so it was acceptable. When I bought the tickets on Klook, they were twice as expensive as buying them at the gate. I'm not sure why; perhaps the on-site tickets only cover basic entry and not all zones. The Klook tickets, however, allowed access to all zones, but I couldn't explore everything because it was crowded, cold, and rainy. Despite that, I was impressed! The high-angle views were stunning.
