  • The Ming Dingling Mausoleum is the mausoleum of Emperor Wanli. The overall layout of the ground buildings is circular in front and round in back, which symbolizes the ancient Chinese philosophical concept of "the sky is round and the earth is square".
  • The construction of Dingling Mausoleum began long before Emperor Wanli was alive. It started in the 12th year of Wanli (1584 AD) and took 6 years to complete, costing 8 million taels of silver.
  • The emperor was only 28 years old when the mausoleum was built. It was not officially opened until 1620. The mausoleum was idle for 30 years.
