Recommended booking JR Shinkansen and connecting local train in advance through Klook, and go to any JR ticketing machine to print out the tickets a day before travel. My train from Tokyo to Sapporo was literally full, and my husband thanked me for reserving the tickets in advance.

Fantastic
Tokyo Station -> Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto ·
The travel was first class but of course that is what we booked. We loved the meal and drinks we received and the personal service. There was no issue with luggage, we could have managed a big suitcase but probably because we had the back seat. If you can afford it, i would highly recommend premium travel as it is a long trip. The scenery was beautiful and the train ride was seamless. luggage space: experience on board: seat arrangements: ease of boarding: ease of booking on Klook:
