Swiss Travel Pass 3-day ticket! It's a relief to pay in Korean Won (though it reflects the exchange rate). There might be a slight discount or interest-free installment options through credit card benefits. Having to buy tickets individually while traveling can be stressful, so it's convenient for travelers in an unfamiliar place to just find the necessary transportation and board/deboard. You can ask AI for places with free rides and plan your itinerary accordingly (but don't trust AI 100%).

Remember to buy your admission tickets a little in advance. The Lindt Home of Chocolate museum is large and highly interactive, suitable for both adults and children. You can also sample Lindt chocolate there. Highly recommended!

Before heading to Switzerland, we purchased a 15-day continuous Swiss Travel Pass (STP). This allowed us to use designated trains, boats, and local trams (many were included). We also received free access or discounts on certain mountain excursions and could enter numerous museums, which was incredibly convenient. After purchasing, we received a QR code, which we simply showed to staff when they came to check, and that was all we needed!

Remarkable Landmarks and Must-Visit Sights

Twin Towers

Embark on an unforgettable journey to the top of Zurich's iconic Twin Towers at Grossmünster. These towers, originally constructed between 1487 and 1492, stand as a testament to the city's rich history. After a fire in 1763, they were crowned with neo-Gothic elements, adding a unique charm to their silhouette. As you ascend, each step brings you closer to a breathtaking panoramic view of Zurich, making the climb a rewarding adventure for all who visit.

Stained Glass Windows

Step into a world of color and light with the stunning stained glass windows at Grossmünster. These masterpieces, crafted by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti in 1932 and later complemented by Sigmar Polke's contemporary creations in 2009, transform the church into a vibrant tapestry of art and history. Each window tells a story, inviting you to pause and appreciate the harmonious blend of modern artistry within this historic setting.

Reformation Museum

Delve into the transformative history of the Reformation at the Grossmünster's Reformation Museum. Nestled within the church's cloister, this museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the religious upheavals led by Huldrych Zwingli. Discover the pivotal role this very site played in shaping Zurich's spiritual landscape, and leave with a deeper understanding of the city's rich cultural heritage.

Culture and History

Grossmünster is steeped in history, from its legendary founding by Charlemagne to its central role in the Swiss-German Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli. The church's plain interior reflects the iconoclastic reforms of the 16th century, making it a key site for understanding the religious shifts of the era. The Grossmünster Church is a former monastery built on the graves of the city's patron saints, Felix and Regula. It is also the site of the first secondary school, believed to be founded by Charlemagne, whose statue adorns the south tower. The Grossmünster stands as a testament to the Swiss Reformation, fostering societal dialogue and preserving reformed traditions through music and word.

Architectural Style

The church is a prime example of Romanesque architecture, featuring a grand carved portal with medieval columns and grotesque capitals. Its Romanesque crypt dates back to the 11th and 13th centuries, offering a glimpse into the architectural trends of the time.

Local Cuisine

While visiting the Grossmünster, take the opportunity to explore Zurich's culinary scene. Indulge in traditional Swiss dishes like fondue and raclette, or enjoy a variety of international cuisines available in the nearby Old Town.

Restoration Efforts

Ongoing restoration work since January 2025 ensures the preservation of the church's natural stone facade, maintaining its historical integrity.
