Our guide, Hikaru, who explained things in Chinese, English, and Japanese, was really entertaining, lol. They took a great photo of me by the Christmas tree, they're truly skilled. I slept for most of the journey, but the snowy scenery outside that I occasionally saw was beautiful. Since I'm a student, I didn't participate in the snowmobiling (the participation fee was 20,000 yen 🥲), but instead, I got to see horses and drink Jersey milk, which was nice ☺️. Also, I highly recommend the baked sweet potato sold at Shirohige Falls; it was large, sticky, and delicious! I was very satisfied that we were able to visit all the locations and take many photos!

Absolutely a perfect experience! Our guide, Oliver, was excellent and arranged everything very comfortably. He spoke three languages, including English, Chinese, and Japanese, to explain things to everyone. His explanations were very detailed, humorous, and he even shared some interesting tidbits. 👍🏻 His time management was also perfect. He's the best guide I've encountered so far.

Things to do at Furano Ski Resort

Hit the Ski Slopes in the Furano Zone

Start your adventure at the Furano Zone, the heart of Furano Ski Resort and home to some of the best ski runs in Hokkaido. This area features the famous Furano Downhill, which has even hosted World Cup ski events. If you want to sharpen your skills, the resort also has the Furano International Snowsports School for both ski and snowboard lessons.

Explore the Kitanomine Zone

On the opposite side of the mountain, the Kitanomine Zone gives you a great mix of long, open trails and tree-lined runs. It's slightly quieter than the main Furano Zone, making it ideal for relaxed skiing and snowboarding. You'll also find plenty of spots for photos with amazing panoramic views of the Tokachi Mountain Range. The lifts here connect easily to other runs, so it's fun to explore both sides in a day.

Ride the Furano Ropeway

Even if you're not skiing, the Furano Ropeway is worth a ride. It takes you 900 meters up the mountain in just a few minutes, giving you stunning views of snow-covered forests and the entire Furano Zone. In winter, it's your gateway to some of the resort's best runs, while in summer, it transforms into a scenic sightseeing lift surrounded by flower fields.

Snow Rafting Adventure

For an exciting adventure, enjoy snow rafting at Furano Ski Resort! You'll ride a big inflatable raft pulled by a snowmobile, zooming over snowy trails at high speeds. It's a fun and exciting way to enjoy the snowy landscape.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Take a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the scenic landscapes of Furano, Japan. This unforgettable experience gives you stunning views of snow-covered mountains and the sprawling Furano Ski Area from high above. Perfect for photography lovers, the ride shows you a new side of the beautiful Daisetsu Mountain Range.

Try Ice Hole Fishing

For a fun activity off the slopes, try ice hole fishing, a unique winter experience near Furano Ski Resort. You'll drill a small hole in the frozen lake, drop your line, and wait for fish like smelt to bite. Some tours even let you fry up your fresh catch right on the spot!

Check out Furano Cheese Factory

Check out the Furano Cheese Factory to learn the art of cheesemaking. Here, you can watch how cheese is made and even make your own! The factory uses fresh milk from Hokkaido to create yummy dairy products. This place is a must-visit for food lovers!

Explore Downtown Furano

Take a break from skiing and explore Downtown Furano! This charming town has cute local shops, cozy cafes, and amazing Furano restaurants. Don't forget to taste some local treats and pick up a few souvenirs!

Visit Furano Wine Factory

If you're a wine lover, you shouldn't miss the Furano Wine Factory. You can take a tour to learn how they make local wine and enjoy tasting some delicious wines made from Hokkaido grapes. This winery is famous for its unique "goat winery" experience at Domaine Raison. After the tour, you can have a lovely meal at the on-site restaurant.

Tips Before You Go to Furano Ski Resort

1. Check the Snow Season Dates

The best time to visit Furano Ski Resort is from late November to early May, with the heaviest snowfall in January and February. Checking the snow forecast before your trip helps you plan for the best conditions. You'll want to time your visit for peak powder days if you're chasing that perfect run!

2. Book Your Accommodation Early

Hotels near Furano Ski Resort fill up fast, especially during the winter holidays and ski festivals. It's best to book a few months in advance so you can get a spot close to the slopes or near the ski lifts.

3. Dress for the Cold

Winters at Furano Ski Resort can get really chilly, so dressing in warm, waterproof layers is key. Bring thermal clothing, gloves, and snow boots to stay comfortable all day on the mountain. The temperatures can drop quickly, especially in the mornings and evenings.

4. Rent Your Gear in Advance

If you don't have your own equipment, Furano Ski Resort has lots of rental options, but they can get busy during peak season. Reserving your skis, snowboards, or clothing in advance saves time and guarantees you'll get the right fit. Most rental shops also offer lessons for beginners or kids.

5. Explore Beyond the Slopes

There's more to Furano Ski Resort than just skiing! Take time to visit nearby attractions like hot springs, ice villages, and local restaurants serving Hokkaido's famous cheese and ramen. You can also go snowshoeing or take a snowmobile tour for a different kind of adventure.

Other Ski Resorts in Hokkaido

Rusutsu Resort

Rusutsu Resort is perfect for families, beginners, and anyone who loves wide, uncrowded runs. The resort has smooth trails, tree runs, and fun snow activities like dog sledding and snowmobiling. The powder here rivals Furano Ski Resort's, and it's often less crowded too.

Kiroro Snow World

If you enjoyed the beautiful landscapes at Furano Ski Resort, you'll love Kiroro Snow World for its pure snow and peaceful setting. Kiroro has some of the softest and driest powder in Hokkaido. It's great for intermediate skiers and those who prefer a calm, upscale experience. The resort also has a luxurious onsen and top-notch dining options

Tomamu Ski Resort

Just one hour away from Furano Ski Resort, Tomamu Ski Resort has beautiful slopes for all levels, as well as unique attractions like the winter Ice Village and an indoor wave pool. It's known for its light, dry snow and breathtaking views of the mountains.
