It was my second time to visit Goryokaku Tower but the first one was in autumn of 2023 and I’m so glad I was able to visit again in winter this year. Hopefully I’ll get to visit again with sakura trees in full bloom.
I decided to grab this ticket when I was around Hakodate and the weather was clear. It's pretty cheap so that's always a good thing! The tower itself is quite worthwhile, although as mentioned, only go up on a relatively clear day - you won't see anything if it's foggy/snowing. The sight itself provides great 360 degree views of the city and of the fort. Pretty worthwhile and a nice way to spend the morning. Could just have a bit more English to explain the history as it was a bit limited. Of course, it's in Japan so completely understandable they don't have to cater to all other nationalities.
Seamless experience by booking in Klook & redeeming the actual ticket at the counter by showing the receipt on my phone. A gracious welcome by the lady elevator operator, she has such a nice voice talking to us while we go up. So Japanese! A spectacular view of the ‘Star Fortress’ from above. Nice & detailed exhibit on its history. There’s a confectionery shop selling ice cream & such. I got a sakura cone ice cream which is so good! Lots of nice memorabilia you can get at the top or level 1 which has a broader range. lots of good stuff! and finally to walk around the fortress park. What a vast & beautiful park! You can see ducks chilling too.
It was pack with tourists and crowded, however as always in the Japaneses style- they were organised to get a large number of people to go up to the tower to see the whole city of Hakodate and the amazing buildings in Goryokaku. From the port to this place, it took about 13 minutes by taxi and cost about 1800 yen.
Paid 1200 yen for a ticket to see an attraction that takes less than 10 minutes to view. Unless it's cherry blossom season, snow season, or you're going to see the night view, it's simply not worth seeing. What an easy way to make money on tickets! Didn't buy a single souvenir. What a rip-off. You're better off spending the ticket money to see the night view from Mount Hakodate. Or better yet, use the money to eat a bowl of ramen at Ajisai Honten (salt ramen) next door. The Lucky Pierrot burger joint next door is packed, so be prepared to wait. This attraction mainly attracts foreigners (Westerners), followed by Koreans. Amen.
Easy to exchange for tickets and cheaper. The view from the tower is great. The park is very beautiful with many Sakura trees. I enjoyed the visit there in the morning which is very cooling.
Very convenient and easy to use. You should print the paper and exchange it at the ticket counter. It is a place you should definitely visit in Hakodate and Hokkaido. It will be very beautiful when the cherry blossoms bloom.
Exchange your physical tickets at the counter hassle-free. Goryokaku Tower and Castle is one of Hakodate’s main tourist attractions, and the view from the tower’s observation deck is simply stunning! From the tower you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Hakodate. There is also an exhibition space with chronologies and dioramas explaining the history of Goryokaku and Hakodate, which I found quite interesting. We visited in late March so most of the snow around the fort had melted but the view was still beautiful. After visiting the tower, we also walked around the fortress.
