What to expect
This is an exclusive, niche, and immersive Chinese culinary and cultural experience. Unlike dining in an ordinary restaurant, it takes you deep into a local family’s home for an up-close experience of authentic Chinese everyday life and traditional food culture. The entire activity is guided by a local host. No prior cooking experience is necessary, and absolute beginners can easily participate. We prepare fresh ingredients, a full set of cookware, and tools in advance, guiding you step-by-step through ingredient washing, seasoning proportioning, manual shaping, steaming, boiling, pan-frying, and deep-frying. You will fully learn 1-2 classic national Chinese dishes (such as dumplings, tangyuan, spring rolls, Chinese dim sum, or home-style stir-fries, adjustable based on season and preferences). During the preparation process, I will explain the traditional customs, solar term culture, dietary symbolism, and core techniques of Chinese cooking associated with the food—such as wrapping dumplings for the Spring Festival, eating tangyuan for the Winter Solstice, and the traditional origins of festive spring rolls. This allows you not only to “know how to cook,” but also to “understand the culture.” After the food is ready, everyone can enjoy what they made together, paired with specialty Chinese tea. In a relaxed and free atmosphere, we will freely chat about cultural differences in cuisine and lifestyle between China and other countries, immersively experiencing the everyday hospitality and lifestyle of the Chinese people, and unlocking the most authentic and heartwarming travel experience in China. The entire activity maintains a relaxed, pressure-free atmosphere, focusing on a niche, private, and slow-paced immersive experience that rejects superficial, checklist-style sightseeing. It is ideal for travelers who want a deep understanding of Chinese culture, love food, and have a passion for niche, distinctive experiences.
