What to expect
Embark on a rare geothermal adventure at Kamuy Wakka Hot Waterfall, hidden inside Hokkaido's UNESCO-listed Shiretoko National Park. Fed directly by volcanic hot springs from Mount Iozan, this unique river actually grows warmer the higher you climb.
After a brief safety orientation video, your certified guide will lead your small group (max 6) upstream. You will gear up with a helmet and experience the thrill of wading through flowing water and scrambling over wet, natural river rocks.
The trek concludes near the 4th waterfall, where the thermal waters reach a comfortable 35–38°C. While the main pool itself is off-limits due to rockfall risks, you will stop just before it to safely enjoy close-up views of the falls and access the warm, rushing flow.
