Reviews
The driver, Respi, was kind, friendly, and punctual :) It was nice to chat with her. As a young couple who are fit but have never hiked before, this was challenging as it was all uphill. It took us about an hour to reach the top. Honestly speaking, we felt very unsafe because it gets narrow and slippery. We are thankful for the hiking instructor for looking out for us and helping us up, preventing us from slipping. The lunch was made in the kitchen they had there, just a comforting meal :) When we reached the top of Mount Batur, the instructor also showed us the volcanic activity ongoing which was really cool! Unfortunately, as it was too cloudy, there was no sunset and it drizzled here and there. I gets cold up there so do bring a windbreaker or sort! The hike down was very slippery and dark, we were honestly afraid that we would slip and die hahaha. We hiked down for a tough 20minutes and asked for a jeep because we did not want to risk it. The jeep cost us IDR 400,000.
The driver Ayas and his wife picked us up from the villa on the top of the mountain where we were staying and drove to Batur. Our guide Kodak took us up the mountain on a small path, all along the way there were red lava rocks and black soil. It was quite difficult to go up the mountain, as it was all wild roads. Halfway up the mountain, I met a friendly kitten with a mole on its left ear. I touched it and saw it again when I reached the top of the mountain. I wonder which path it climbed up from? I fed it the yolks of 1.5 boiled eggs. In addition to boiled eggs, the guide also made us banana sandwiches and brewed coffee. The only drawback was that the volcano could not be seen due to the fog. It was dark when we went down the mountain, and the guide gave each of us a searchlight, which made it much easier to go down the mountain. In short, it was a very special experience that required a lot of physical strength. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to go.
The Mount Batur sunset trek was a great experience that blends adventure with tranquility. The trail was barely crowded, which is what we were looking for. The trail is moderately challenging, but well worth the effort. As you ascend, panoramic views of Lake Batur and the surrounding volcanic landscape begin to unfold. Reaching the summit just in time for sunset was magical—the sky transforms into a canvas of warm hues, casting a surreal light. The guide was knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring safety. She patiently waited for us whenever we slowed down. Whether you're a nature lover, a photography enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, this trek is a must-do. Highly recommended for couples, solo travelers, and small groups looking to experience Bali from a truly elevated perspective.
The hike up can be a little challenging but once your at the top WOW so worth it
We had an unforgettable Mt. Batur sunrise hike thanks to our amazing guide, Wayne. From start to finish, Wayne was patient, encouraging, and incredibly supportive, especially as we navigated the steep trail in the dark. His calm guidance made the climb feel much more manageable, even for those of us who don’t hike often. At the summit, Wayne surprised us with a warm, comforting breakfast—steamed eggs, fresh bread, and a cup of hot coffee that felt like pure heaven in the chilly mountain air. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the entire experience feel even more special. We also want to give a big shoutout to our driver, Mangku. He was punctual, friendly, and drove us safely and smoothly even in the early hours of the morning. His warm smile and genuine care made us feel truly welcome in Bali. Highly recommend both Wayne and Mangku if you're planning this experience.
The driver reached our hotel punctually and we met our guide Respi & Melly at the starting point. They are very kind, professional guide and they introduced all the plants and landscape along the way up to the mountain top. We enjoyed our trekking trip very much.
We had the absolute best experience on this sunset tour. Firstly, our driver Aldy was so amazing and nice and made the 2.5 hour drive there from Seminyak and same back go so quickly! Our guide up Mt Batur was incredibly accommodating to our pace, and at the top made us hot tea, snacks, and we even got to cook eggs from the heat of the volcano and eat them!! 10/10 experience, would highly recommend and was amazing value for money. Was totally the highlight of our 9 day Bali trip!!
First stop before the hike was the locally-managed coffee plantation. Our coffee guide Komang was knowledgeable and told us all about how the local farmers make the coffee, cacao and tea harvest sustainable. Great tasting menu too! It was pouring during this time and we were initially afraid the hike would get cancelled, but luckily the rain stopped as we made our way to the foot of Mt. Batur. This was followed by an awesome sunset hike up Mt. Batur, and this was despite the cloudy-foggy conditions. This was all because of our guide Yuli; her young inquisitive cousin Putu also joined us. If you're going to Bali during the dry season we recommend this hike because for 90% of the time, we were the only ones on the trail and had an encounter with another group just 15mins from the summit (they were on their way down). The snack we had up on the summit hut was the perfect end: hot tea, sandwiches and hot hardboiled eggs after seeing the caldera. Bonus for the sunset hike: the beautiful lights of the valley below and on Lake Batur. 10/10 would recommend to avoid crowds and get your steps in.
Sunset at Batur summit was outstanding due to combination of two: very friendly, helpful, nice personality tour guide and a beautiful weather this day. Spectacular views ⭐ Highly recommended attraction.
Being a solo and first time traveller to Bali, I enjoyed this tour arranged from beginning to end. The driver contacted me 2 days in advance for my peace of mind and safety there. Simple english could be understood. The plantation we visited was private and was away from hordes of tourists which was nice. There was no pressure to spend money and they were there to allow you to relax into the environment. Major recommendation for Putu if you are looking for a quiet drive like a local. I contacted him again to get me to the airport. 👍👍👍 Though the trek uphill was done in imminent rain and we got 0 sunset. I enjoyed meeting other travellers and how open everyone was to talk!
