What to expect
Hokkaido Snowfield Exploration Tour | Volcanic Wonders, Cute Bear Interactions, Ranch Scenery, Snowfield Gallop
- In the winter of Hokkaido, a journey combining volcanic wonders, animal interactions, and snowfield exploration is quietly unfolding. Starting from Sapporo, the first stop is the historic Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley), a crater relic formed by a volcanic eruption over ten thousand years ago. The landscape, with a diameter of about 450 meters, still spews white smoke, and the air is filled with a strong sulfurous smell, as if one is in a mysterious hellish world. In winter, Jigokudani is covered in pristine white snow, where steaming heat and ice intertwine to create a unique scene.
- Next, we head to Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch. This new mountain, born from a volcanic eruption, is still growing, with its reddish-brown body occasionally emitting white smoke, creating an extraordinary spectacle. The bear ranch is home to hundreds of Hokkaido brown bears, and visitors can observe their charmingly clumsy appearance up close. They can also personally feed them biscuits or apples, and can't help but smile when they see the bears stand up and wave.
- A brief stop at Lake Hill Farm on the shores of Lake Toya. This highland ranch not only offers excellent views of Mount Yotei and Lake Toya but is also famous for its handmade ice cream made from its own fresh milk. The rich and smooth taste is unforgettable. On a clear day, the ranch, lake, and snow-capped mountains intertwine to form a quiet and moving winter painting.
- The highlight of the trip is the snowmobile experience at Lake Toya (Closed January 1-3). Galloping across the vast snowfields and by the lake, feeling the roar of the engine and the howl of the cold wind, each acceleration is like a deep conversation with winter. If the experience is not possible due to weather conditions, we will go to the Lake Toya Sairo Observatory, which is the best place to photograph panoramic views of the lake islands, Mount Yotei, Showa Shinzan, Mount Usu, and more.
- The full-day itinerary includes the awe of volcanoes and geothermal activity, the warmth of animals and ranches, and the adrenaline rush brought by speed and snowscapes. The diverse charm of Hokkaido in winter unfolds layer by layer on this trip, from sight to taste, from tranquility to passion, all making for unforgettable memories.

Reviews
First of all, the tour guide was very experienced. Rita was our tour guide, and we were very satisfied with the service provided. Our journey from start to finish was very smooth. We were also given free ice cream during the tour. Overall, we were very happy with the service from Rita and the bus driver for this trip. Highly recommended for anyone planning a day trip here. The most exciting part was the snowmobile activity offered. The view was absolutely beautiful, overlooking Lake Toya—it truly felt like being in a Narnia movie. ✨❄️The price for the snowmobile activity here is ¥15,000 for two people, and ¥20,000 for a single rider.excluded from the trip

Thank you Xixi and driver Allen for an amazing experience! Xixi was an excellent guide. You can tell she cares about every one of us. She offered to take our photos and bring our purchases back to the van for our convenience. She also shared many historical facts and tips during the drive. A few minutes before heading back to the car, she would message me to ask where I am to make sure that we don’t get left behind. Also thank you so much for the ice cream!!! Allen was a great driver as well. He deserves kudos for driving for 2+ hours. I recommend this tour. I can’t wait to use my lavender cream! Xixi and Allen, wishing you both well! Thank you for all that you do! You’re doing great!
Thank you, Rita, for being the best, most enthusiastic, and most patient tour guide I've ever met. You helped us take photos and were very helpful and friendly!
The purpose of this trip to Lake Tongye was to ride snowmobiles. The guide, Jay, was especially fun, and the trip was never boring. The itinerary was also very reasonable, making it suitable for people who are too lazy to plan their own trips.
The trip was a lot of fun, and the tour guide worked hard to speak English, Chinese, and Japanese since the customers that day were from different countries.
Our tour guide, Rita, provided friendly and meticulous service, explaining the process fluently in both Chinese and English. She has extensive experience leading tours, recommends delicious food, and proactively takes photos. She's truly beautiful inside and out! Highly recommended!
