instructor: we had an amazing sensi naoto experience: what a wonderful experience to lean basic samurai class for beginners
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An unforgettable samurai experience — truly one of a kind If you’re visiting Japan and want something beyond typical tourism, Shidenryu is an absolute must. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with genuine warmth. The team is deeply passionate about preserving samurai culture, and that passion is felt throughout every moment. The training was both physically engaging and deeply meaningful. The instruction was patient, clear, and encouraging — this is an authentic experience led by people who have dedicated their lives to this art. I left with incredible memories and a profound respect for Japanese martial tradition. The kind of experience that stays with you long after you return home. To the team — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Hope to see you again someday!
this was a last minute decision book for me but if I knew the experience and the kindness I was shown this is an experience to put into your itinerary. Instructor hiryu shiden was very detailed and can tell he wanted u to truly experience the samurai spirit. An experience everyone who comes to Japan should have!
experience: This by far was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. The chance to live out my samurai dreams whilst entertaining a 17 year old, perfect!
this was a really special experience. I was able to have a one on one experience and experience an authentic samurai experience.
An amazing experience! I participated on July 20 and loved every minute. The instructors were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Japanese culture and the samurai spirit. The training was fun, easy to follow, and suitable for beginners. It was much more than learning sword movements; it was a chance to experience tradition, discipline, and respect. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and authentic experience in Japan!
Great experience that is unique and probably cannot get anywhere else. We stayed in Japan for a month and did ALL the things - Kyoto, Hakone, TeamLabs, DisneySea, Ramen making, Wagashi making, etc. EVERYONE in our family ranked this in their top 1 or 2 things on the trip - our daughters are 14 and 12 and loved it, too!
This is an amazing experience not to be missed! We did quite a few whilst in Japan for three weeks and this was by far the best. Hiryu and his colleague were perfect hosts. Hiryu took us through the techniques of using a Samurai Sword, the right way to sheath and unsheath and following that he granted us the special opportunity to cut bamboo with a 700 year old Samurai sword. It was unreal.
It’s quite unusual to be able to handle a centuries-old katana. Here we were able to use one for tameshigiri, a chance I could not pass up. Our class today was small so we had plenty of time; even a 13-year-old was able to follow along and succeed, thanks to the great instruction and the sword’s own weighty “presence.” As for the calligraphy, I had forgotten how tough it is to write well with ink and brush, yikes! I’m glad they let me practice first. The tea was lovely. Learned a lot and had a great time. PS. We had a moment of panic at the meet-up location, but we were able to call the staff (check the email) and sort everything out.
we had a lot of fun. It was interesting to learn about the samurai and it's culture and experience the training they had to go through. after the samurai experience we learned about making tee and how to serve it to our guest we even got a little paper explaining it if we forgot something. they even paid the taxi because it was too hot.
