Rent a car in Wellington
Exploring Wellington at Your Leisure
Renting a car in Wellington offers the freedom to discover the city's diverse attractions on your own schedule. With your own vehicle, you can easily drive to the iconic Te Papa Tongarewa Museum, take a scenic trip around the Wellington Harbour, or venture out to the picturesque Wellington Botanic Garden. Enjoy the flexibility of visiting these sites without the constraints of public transportation schedules.
Vehicle Inspection and Rental Agreement
Upon receiving your rental car, conduct a thorough inspection and document any pre-existing damage to ensure you are not held accountable upon return. It's crucial to understand the rental contract, including policies on mileage, fuel, insurance, additional fees, and driving area restrictions. To avoid refueling charges, remember to fill the tank before returning the car, and always return the car on time to evade late fees. If delays are inevitable, contact the rental company to discuss extending your rental.
Child Safety Requirements
In New Zealand, child safety in vehicles is paramount. Ensure you request the appropriate child or booster seats from your car rental provider if traveling with young children. It's important to verify availability and whether the seats will be pre-installed. Non-compliance with child safety regulations can result in fines and put children at risk.
Navigating Wellington Traffic
Wellington's roads can be busy, particularly during rush hours in the morning and late afternoon. Plan your travel to avoid congestion during these times. When driving in central Wellington, be mindful of one-way streets and bus lanes. Utilize your rental car's GPS system to navigate the city more effectively and to find the best routes to your destinations.
Cost-Effective Travel
While Wellington has reliable public transport, renting a car can be a more economical choice, especially when traveling in a group or planning to visit multiple locations. It provides the convenience of travel without the higher costs associated with taxis or the time constraints of public transport schedules.
Convenient Pickup Locations
Wellington offers several convenient locations for picking up your rental car, including Wellington International Airport and various spots throughout the city. Choose from a variety of rental companies to find the vehicle that best suits your needs and budget.
Driving in New Zealand
Remember that in New Zealand, you'll be driving on the left side of the road. Road signs are typically in English, making navigation straightforward. Always adhere to traffic laws, such as not crossing solid lines and giving way to pedestrians. Rural roads may present additional hazards like narrow bridges or livestock, so drive cautiously. Never drink and drive, as New Zealand has strict laws against driving under the influence.

The car was very clean and drove well. The free airport shuttle to the rental station was really convenient. It had Bluetooth and very quick-heating air conditioning, making for a comfortable drive.

Fantastic Tiggo 4 Chery 5 day
I picked Eurocar based on low price on a new model and they have delivered. However there were bits of bird poo on the car since they were parked outdoor. I paid extra for a battery electric model but received a regular one. Chevy Tiggo 4 has a very spacious trunk that can fit 2 28” stand up
