The longest-running show on Broadway, The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is a classic and definitely a must-see for any musical-theater fan.
Based on Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel, The Phantom of the Opera, the musical follows the story of The Phantom, a mysterious composer who haunts the Paris Opera House, and his muse, up-and-coming opera-star Christine Daaé.
Unbeknownst to everyone but the audience and Christine Daaé, the Phantom has actually taken the young soprano under his wing for private singing lessons. Through his continued torment of the Paris Opera House, he secures Christine an audition in the current opera they are rehearsing. As Christine’s star continues to rise, an old friend, Raoul – now a handsome, young man – begins to take notice. This, in turn, angers the Phantom and causes him to kidnap Christine Daaé, who despite her capture, seemingly continues to take interest in the Phantom.
This haunting tale of love, light, and music – with its celebrated cast and Tony award-winning music – will surely make for a night that will be hard to forget.
