Koh Ker was definitely worth visiting. The pyramid temple was stunning. I climbed to the top and the scenery from there was just amazing! Beng Mealea was a good place to take photos. However, since most of its architectures were damaged by nature, you could not see too many crafts or buildings like other temples in Angkor. Overall it was a nice trip and I will recommend it to my friends.

What To Expect

Go on a fun adventure on this one-day tour of Siem Reap that takes you to some of the temples furthest from the city, Koh Ker and Beng Mealea. Choose between a join in or a private tour depending on your personal preference. On the day of the tour, start off with a pick up at your hotel, immediately followed by departure to the first stop of the tour, Beng Mealea Temple. Located a couple of hours northeast of Siem Reap, it is one of the most mysterious temples as it has been consumed by the jungle. However, some of the dense forest has been cut back, allowing visitors to explore it and see chiseled sandstone blocks, impressive wall carvings and maybe even a peek at the well-preserved library of the collapsed central tower. You'll then make your way to Koh Ker, a complex of temples abandoned to the forests of the north that was once the capital of the Angkorian empire from AD 928 to AD 944. Walk around and inspect the detailed stone carvings, doorposts and slender window columns of Prasat Krahom and climb the stairs of Prasat Thom for a spectacular view of the entire area. Reenergize yourself after half a day's worth of travel and exploration with a lunch at your own expense, where you can enjoy a variety of traditional Cambodian cuisine, right before you head back to your hotel.

little off track and far from the main City, but definitely a must visit if you have time. Beng Mealea, is still one of those sites which is not restored, so one can find all the stones scattered across. for me the experience was extremely surreal, just imagining how those big sandstones would have been brought here and what effort it would have taken to get it together to create a master piece, which is up to you, how you solve the jigsaw puzzle. the stones have turned green because of moss, which again gives an eerie feeling. Kon kher s like mini Egyptian pyramid, climb up till the top to see the lush green surroundings. one more reason to go for this tour is to go see how the City looks beyond the normal course

Great trip! Thanks to the well experienced and friendly tour guide, Mr. Chenda Hen for introducing both the ancient and modern cultures of Cambodia to us! Mr. Hen brought us to various temples in the Kor Ker area ad Beng Mealea area, and told us the histories behind these temples and the religious cultures of the Khmer Buddilism and Hindulism. The driver and Mr. Hen arrived our hotel at around 0730hrs in the morning, 30 minutes before the take-off time. It was a hot and humid day but luckily the air conditioning of the Toyota Camry was powerful enough to keep us cool. Bottle waters were provided so hydration is not an issue. At around 1200-1300 Mr. Hen brought us to a shanty-style food place for lunch. The place is right outside the Koh Ker pyramid and we assumed most tourists who visited the area would have to get lunch from there. The overall hygiene was quite good and food was not bad there (Khmer style, average $6 per dishes and around $1 per dirink). For anyone who doesn’t want to eat out or worry about the food, it is recommended to bring your own lunch. All temples in this area were relatively quiet compared to Angkor area. For anyone who wants to avoid the crowd, this trip is for you. (P.s Beng Mealea is probably the most beautiful temples you would see in Siem Reap).

I went on the Koh Ker and Beng Mealea Day Tour with Mr Chenda. I was the only one that signed up that day, but Mr Chenda was very professional and friendly. He shared the history of Cambodia along the way (it was close to a 2-hour drive out) and we even stopped for some traditional bamboo sticky rice! It was made fresh and very delicious. Mr Chenda's experience from working with archaeologists enhanced the tour experience as he readily showed me artefacts from the ground and described the research invested in Siem Reap in recent years. This was in addition to in-depth sharing of the history and culture of Cambodia, and the background behind the temples. We visited many smaller temples in addition to Koh Ker and Beng Melea, and Mr Chenda helped me take lovely pictures with the sights. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and would highly recommend this to complement the other staple temples in Siem Reap.

This tour is not suitable for people with motion sickness due to car ride as it is approximate 2 hrs mini van bumpy journey to the site. It is 120 km from the downtown of siem reap. But it is really worth to see the main Koh Ker Temple and get up to the top. Furthermore, this was accompanied by experienced guide, Cheery.
