What To Expect

Spend a fulfilling day at Chiang Mai Mountain Sanctuary for an opportunity of a lifetime! Start the day with a pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai, then drive for an hour to the sanctuary, nestled in the jungles of Northern Chiang Mai. Once you arrive at the family-run sanctuary, change into your traditional Lanna clothing, and head inside for an experience you'll never forget! Together with a small and intimate group, learn about these fantastic creatures, and how to care for them! Get a chance to make their food, groom them in a natural mud bath, and even go on a thrilling trek to the nearby jungle! If you choose the half day tour, your tour will end with a delicious Thai meal with seasonal fruits. On the other hand, if you choose the full day tour, you'll go on a longer trek into the mountains, plus get a chance to learn about the elephants' daily lives. Your day will end with a trek to a nearby river, where you can get the chance to give the lovely animals a refreshing bath, before heading back to Chiang Mai. The best part? The sanctuary is absolutely cruelty free – which means no chains, no hooks, and no riding; just lots of love to give these animals all year round - the perfect way to interact with elephants!

This tour in particular didn't feel the most organized. On occassion we are skeptical in regards to the treatment of the elephants there... please refer to the other reviews as we have experienced the same. The other complaint I have is the transportation back to the hotel as for unknown reasons half the van were different tourists joining us for the ride back and a detour was made to bring a group back to the complete opposite direction of the main Chiang mai area costing the rest of the group at least an 45 mins additonal transport time and getting stuck in traffic only returning to our hotel at 7pm. The part that really bugged me was that none of this was mentioned at all and we only realized while tracking our own return on google maps GPS.

Had a wonderful time on this tour. 1. Unlike the other elephant tours, the tour company take good care of the elephants and treats them with love and respect. 2. Our tour guide, Leelee Jang aka Nancy treats everyone in the tour group as part of her family, she is really compassionate, energetic and most of all Funny. 3. The tour is informative and effecient, they are flexible depending on what their customers want.

Awesome day! Loved the jungle tour. It is pretty hard and muddy so bring good shoes.

Elephants are friendly. Good experience to learn more about elephants!

I got my voucher few minutes after booking. Although they do not allow to ride elephants, the elephants are being tied on one foot. Do not expect much for lunch. But I do love the pineapples! End our tour by zip lining, no worries, it’s just a short fly. And before ending our tour, they served us again pineapples and drinking water.

Hotel pick up and drop off made the trip easy. They provided water, clothes to change into because you WILL get dirty (be aware they have very limited X-Large clothes, if you are a big person, you may want to dress in such a way that you could stay in your own clothes if need be), lunch was good, the guides were helpful and good with the elephants. You have lots of one on one time with the elephants and lots of time for photos. From an ethical standpoint, it was important for me to find a place that does not let you ride the elephants. However, it did feel like these elephants were being kept more as pets with very little time or space to roam free, and that is my only criticism. The elephants seemed relaxed (not swaying, dancing, or other signs of distress) and well cared for, but they were tied to very short leashes and it didn't seem as though the facility was set up to let them roam free like a real sanctuary.

Half day to feed elephants, and half day for 6km trail to walk with elephants in jungle, then wash elephants in river. Very good activities! Kids love it.

it was an amazing experience being able to help feed the elephants...too bad though it was quite cold when we went there..the elephants wont go into the water.

Lee is very nice and cute, i love the elephant dance that she had performed. Each elephants had their own story, i have learnt a lot of things about the elephant, and the most imprtant one should be "NO food NO friend" 😝
