Fun day, enjoyed the Elephant Poop Paper tour, very attentive tour guide, some limitations due to recent heavy rains, but we all had a enjoyable time...would recommend the morning 1/2 day tour.

What To Expect

Spend a fulfilling day at Chiang Mai Mountain Sanctuary for an opportunity of a lifetime! Start the day with a pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai, then drive for an hour to the sanctuary, nestled in the jungles of Northern Chiang Mai. Once you arrive at the family-run sanctuary, change into your traditional Lanna clothing, and head inside for an experience you'll never forget! Together with a small and intimate group, learn about these fantastic creatures, and how to care for them! Get a chance to make their food, groom them in a natural mud bath, and even go on a thrilling trek to the nearby jungle! If you choose the half day tour, your tour will end with a delicious Thai meal with seasonal fruits. On the other hand, if you choose the full day tour, you'll go on a longer trek into the mountains, plus get a chance to learn about the elephants' daily lives. Your day will end with a trek to a nearby river, where you can get the chance to give the lovely animals a refreshing bath, before heading back to Chiang Mai. The best part? The sanctuary is absolutely cruelty free – which means no chains, no hooks, and no riding; just lots of love to give these animals all year round - the perfect way to interact with elephants!

My friends and I booked this activity and it went beyond what we expected. The van picked us up right on time and our tour guide Tony was great, very friendly, funny and full of information on the elephants. We went and visited the poopoo park where they showed us how they make paper with recycled elephant poop and then we drove another 30 minutes to the sanctuary. We were given endless amount of bananas to feed the elephants and play with them. We were never rushed or felt like we didn’t have enough time with them. I recommend wearing flip flops as you’ll walk with the elephants in the jungle and it’s full of deep wet mud, I took my shoes off so they wouldn’t be soaked in mud but then there were parts that were rocky so I wished I had slippers on. The elephants were very sweet and seemed to be taken care of very well. I highly recommend this particular elephant sanctuary. From what we read online other sanctuaries were up to two hours away and you ride in the back of a pickup truck and were much more expensive so this was the best one we found.

Unforgettable experience! Best part was bathing the elephants. Our guide Nana was also super caring to both the tourists and elephants. Recommended must-do activity!

Good experience! But the river is too danger to cross. so we pass that part. and guide leads us to another place to know how to make elephant poo poo paper👍😁

Nice people. Great place. Wonderful elephants!

Nice experience, staff was good and helpful. We have 2 young kids so the walking was a bit exhausting, and elephants catching up quickly - that was a bit thrilling when we have to hurried to get away from elephant’s path. The zip line to cross the river and bath were fun as well. We were having an enjoyable morning there.

Unbelievable day. Best of our trip in Thailand so far and we’ve been here a month and done some amazing things but this was the most rewarding. Lee the guide was the icing on the cake - knowledgeable and so generous with her time and taking photos of us in the river and mud bath. Such good value for money and food and drinks provided all day. Make sure you book the full day tour and don’t miss out. Rosa was our favourite elephant.
