It's very convenient to board directly from the train station. Just walk to the bus, exchange your voucher for a pass with the driver, and use that pass for all subsequent boarding. You can download the app to see the bus's current location, but it can be a little inaccurate at times. Other than not knowing the exact boarding time, it's very convenient, reduces a lot of walking, and allows you to go to the observation deck for the night view.

we booked the same day and while our voucher says it starts at 10:30 am, we were able to use it earlier than that. we honestly did not maximize the hop-on, hop-off coz we got off on the 1st stop and toured the walled city on our own. We took the bus again to go back to the train station.

You can't travel without the tour bus, it's all uphill. Definitely do it.
Departure times are somewhat unpredictable, and arrival times for the next bus are not displayed at each stop. Basically, unless you're boarding at the main station, it's a matter of luck. Except for stops in the suburbs, where the bus waits for five minutes, the driver will usually drive straight through if no one is getting on or off. I've also experienced situations where two buses meet each other. Waiting for the bus requires a bit of luck. There aren't clear signs when exiting the train station; you don't redeem your voucher inside the station, but rather at the boarding location outside the station, which caused me to miss the first bus. However, being able to board a bus to the city center right outside the train station is very convenient.
Very convenient with panoramic city views, showcasing scenery you can't see on foot. The only downside is the lack of a Chinese audio guide on board.
We took the high-speed train to Toledo. The bus was already waiting in front of the station, so it was very convenient to get on the bus. The only drawback was that the audio guide system was different for each bus. The channel and language marked on the first bus were completely inconsistent, and there was no Chinese guide at all.
