What To Expect

Learn more about the Korean War and the scars it has left on this divided peninsula by visiting the DMZ and Northern Limit Line, the most militarized strip of land in the world! Your English speaking guide will pick you up from your Seoul accommodation in the morning to take you to the DMZ. Make sure to bring your passport because there will be a checkpoint controlling access to the DMZ. After registering and passing the checkpoint, explore Imjingak Village and Park, the closest location Korean civilians can go to the border to mourn their separation with family members across the border, and Freedom Bridge, where POWs were traded after the armistice. Afterwards, descend into the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel to see the grand attempts by North Korea to prepare for a possible invasion of the south by tunneling through the DMZ defenses. Emerge from the tunnels and climb up to the observation points on Mt. Dora, where you will have a bird’s eye view of the DMZ and the fake propaganda “villages” set up by North Korea just beyond the DMZ. After having lunch, drive past the Iron Fence Zone of the DMZ to see the Northern Limit Line, the disputed maritime boundary between the two Koreas. Stop at the Peace Observatory to catch a glimpse of the North Korean village just across the border before heading back to Seoul.

Really enjoyed the tour. Vicki, our tour guide is very knowledgeable and fluent in English. We got to learn more about the history of Korea and what happened during the Korean war. We also had a glimpse of how life is at the other side of the border. After the tour, we felt great empathy with the Koreans and are one with with them in their desire to finally have a unified Korea. This tour is highly recommended!

A great experience given the history, staff were pleasant and accommodating. If I had anything to complain about it would be that time in some areas was extremely limited and I found myself rushing to gather photos of objects and plaques for explanation as there was no input from the hosts. At the museum there were multiple tours all jostling and talking over each other so much of the information simply could not be heard. At the conclusion of the tour we were railroaded into a Ginseng factory in the hopes we would purchase their products, this time should have been allocated to the tour we paid for. All in all I enjoyed the experience, it just lacked some finishing touches IMO.

The 1st half of the tour to DMZ was good albeit a bit rushed. You will only have just enough time for all activities including the tunnel so make sure to walk fast! The 2nd part which was to the NLL was mostly spent on the road. Unless you really wish to get a really closer look at NK, I would say skip the NLL. The description of the tours need to be more specific on Klook as I had trouble differentiating the tours while selecting. Overall not bad.

Our tour guide SP and Song heedon were very professional. Despite the rain and the gloomy weather, we had so much fun. The tour was informative. Showed us another side of Korea, amid the glamorous Kpop and the shopping. We were supposed to be dropped off at Itaewon after the tour, but we asked Song Heedon for directions to our dinner place. He not only dropped us off near the restaurant, but also walked with us to the restaurant. One of the best tour guides I have ever had!

The sharing from the two guides was probably the most valuable part of the experience. It was a rainy day when we visited the DMZ and NLL so we could not see across the border which was a pity. NLL was probably more interesting for me as it was less crowded and the Peace Observatory offered lots of insights into the history behind the separation. Wished we had more time at the various sigjts in DMZ though, as it was quite rushed especially at Imjingak Village.
